I sold my X1, and I'm kinda thinking about an XB or a 1125r. I love the tractability of the Thunderstorm engine, and ease of use around town. I really don't need to go 170 mph, I think if I could I would, and thats not good. However, I REALLY had a lot of reliability and ride-ability issues with the X1, and do not want to get into the same boat. I've been reading about some stumbling and poor fuel economy issues on the current crop of XB's? Whats up with that? Also, heard you can not get the race parts for them without a Race license?

Any input would be helpful.

08's have some fueling issues, which seem to be mostly resolved by posts here. Still waiting for the dust to settle to see for sure whats up with them. 09's are too new to say anything for sure yet, but so far they look good. If you don't want to deal with any issues, get a 06 or 07 as they use the older FI system.

About the race parts, blame the goverment. Some are available for consumer use.

Don't buy an 08 if you care about fuel mileage.

Actually guys, I have the 08 City X and I was having issues with MPG too. Was running in the mid 30s.

Got a reflash right before Homecoming and then did a 2,500mi roadtrip.

Been wondering just how much the fuel mileage had changed and...

Just did a tank of fuel and it came out at 52mpg. I rode it like normal, so there was some easy stuff tossed in with the floggin'.

Honestly, even though I like having the latest and greatest just like everyone else, I almost wish I had bought an 07 just to avoid all the unknowns about the 08s. But alot of the unknowns out there are getting figured out, so it's up to you which year to get.

There's too many riders out there that are piecing it together and it won't stay unknown for long.

14,000mi and I'm still happy with it.

I've got an 08' and as much as I LOVE the bike.. it still has some hurdles to overcome..

I'm not a big fan of "anecdotal" type situations, QA slips here and there and freak things happen.. I always try and take everything with a grain of salt..

That said, the things that have caused me issue (as well as others apparently) have been the following:

1) Gas Mileage. Some people have done well and are getting 50+ mpg's.. I am not one of them. There's quite a long thread about it. It seems to afflict the 08 models as people with the 07 seem to report better fuel economy. Someone recently posted that their 09' was not behaving much better. Apparently a factory reflash is available. Dealer said mine was up to date. Imma go back and request it again.

2) Oil Dip Stick. Im having issue getting a consistent oil reading when the bike is warmed up. I dunno what it is. I fill up the oil per the service manual. Hopefully this will suffice between oil services.

3) Clutch Cable Holder/basket? Mine broke which caused the clutch cable to come into direct, prolonged contact with the header. Ehh, header 1, clutch cable 0. Factory warranty service took care of it.

Those are it as far as I know. Do some reading/searching on the forum. There's tons of good stuff by knowledgable peeps it seems.

Would I buy another Buell?? I dunno, as much as I love my bike, these gremlins sometimes make it difficult to enjoy and appreciate the bike. Especially when you consider that the older model buells are running GREAT.

Yeah, forgot to mention the clutch cable clamp on mine broke too.
And I still have that flat spot in the power curve to overcome.
Rode an 07 XB9R and that thing is a demon! I want my bike to run like THAT!

But even with all the little issues with my bike, I know that I'll always have a Buell. When this one goes, there will be another.

I've had the flat spot/stumble off idle since new. It's the only problem worth mentioning.

It will be fixed sometime.

I like my '08 XB12R. It's still a lot of fun to ride!

I like my '08 XB12Ss, but it is not perfect. Off idle stumble, and gas mileage is not all that was advertised. My mileage varies between the mid 30's up to a one time max of 51 mpg, my average is in the low 40 to mid 40's with conservative riding.

I am hoping that the mileage will get better with more mileage and subtle improvements like synthetic oil, better plugs, air cleaner, etc.

I have over 2,500 miles on it with no problems except for the ones mentioned.

My Buell is a good bike and I will probably (eventually) sell my Honda VFR800A and keep the Buell.

the only gripe i can come up with is the mpg. best so far is 41. my buddy's getting 42 with his old ford escort.

that's not enough to keep me from LOVING this bike. (08 XB12Ss) another 185 comfy, speedy miles today. great brakes, big torque, and stable as a table while leaned over.
