My 08 XB12R has a little over 10,000 miles and still has poor gas milage.... I'd say it's an issue.

That being said, my only issue is don't advertise 65 mpg if it doesn't get 65 mpg.

I am sure being EPA compliant doesn't help either...

Paint, what kind of MPG are you getting, and how aggressive are you?

43 to 46 MPG like clockwork, for mixed city and highway driving (more like city) on my 05 XB9SX.

The 12's ought to do even better, it's a lower revving longer stroke motor.

Do the newer bikes have a larger tank? My 05 xb9 only holds 2.6 gallons when the light comes on and the most i've gotten in it is 3.1. My light didn't come on yet this morning and i'd been 108 miles. I put in 2.4 gallons. That comes out to 45mpg, but i'm pretty sure I didn't fill it up as far last time, so it's probably closer to 2.3 gallons used or 47mpg. It has a drummer and race ecm, possibly a race filter, but it's not a k&n.

Does everyone fill it up to the very top? I almost over filled it this time because gas just kept coming out after I let off the handle.

almost 10,000 miles on my '08 xb12r and my fuel light consistently comes on between 100-110 miles.

thats almost 45% worst gas mileage than I should be getting (144 miles before the light).

My '07 xb12scg got 54 after the first 500 or so miles (bought it new)..
My "05 xb12scg (bought it with 6,100 miles) gets 58..
Both these figures are ALL highway at 75-80 mph...
Mixed driving(half-town, half-highway, it goes down 2-3 mpg. Still dramatically higher than the '08/'09 models.
For comparison my '07 Aprilia Tuono (990cc) only got 33 town, 36 highway.

I get anywhere from 38 to 45mpg on my 059SX, and that’s with a race kit and some other tuning. I think the bike engine gets better w age. I have 17,000 miles on it and I swear it pulls harder now and gets better gas mileage then ever…

i used to get close to 50 mpg mixed city and hwy on my 04 xb9s, then i borrowed a zx-14 for a while and then my GF upgraded from her ninja 650r to an 08 z1000 and because i got used to all that power...i started wringing the buell's neck.

and now im lucky if i get 40mpg.

Hey Swordsman:

Ok I see your point as well. I guess I just figure a bike to be well broken in by 2500 miles. That being said and the outstanding praises I have heard from the '07 and '06 owners, I bought in expecting no less than 55 MPG hwy.

I am just disappointed because I did buy it for economy commuting, handling and I have owned 3 prior HD's and just think their engines hold true for many many miles.

At what point would a bike be considered fully broken in?

I took my 08 XB12R (10,300 miles) out for a spin today. Some back roads, some interstate. Some hard accelleration. Cruise RPMs between 3800 and 4200.

Calculated MPG............. 40

OK so something to note is that the Scg gas tank can hold a couple liters LESS than the Ss version... After passing the 1000 miles this wkd I am still getting 40-45mpg... I get to the reserve at 110 miles almost exactly everytime, and need to put about 2.5-3 gallons in... I ride quite aggressively so I am pretty happy with that mpg average so far.

I now passed the 1100 miles mark and I got exactly 120miles for 3 gallons... 40mph average, with spirited riding... I am sure I could get 45-50 if I rode mellow 100% of the time.

In other words I am pretty happy!
