Alright I am to the point where I really want bike protection in case that the worse ever happens... I am purchasing the frame pucks, but I am hesitating on buying swingarm sliders... I know that they are a great idea, and i want them, but I would like a good set of spikes. (about an inch to an inch and half long) Does anyone think that this actually might be counter-active in an accident. they might not actually slide as much as dig in and create anchors. I really would like a pair but if they will end up "hurting" i guess I can settle for something else. Thanks, and if anyone has pictures of spikes, that would be cool and appreciated. Alex | ||

Hey Alex, I thought about turning spikes for my own bike; but the thought of getting entangled with the bike if "we" ever go down and the thought of having spikes on my bike digging in or impaling me was not “sooo” appealing! | ||

I had "normal" slider ride up my belly, taking out a couple ribs AND my collarbone in the process - did it THROUGH my leathers. I hate the thought of what would have happened with a decorative spiked slider... but that's just me. I'd think you'd want a slider to SLIDE easily along the ground, not dig in. having a Buell slide down the road is not bad at all with the pucks and axle sliders on the bike. However once a bike starts flipping through the air and bouncing off the ground you can expect massive damage. I would never put a spike where a slider should be. | ||

It was in the start - turn 1 at Willow Springs in the rain (yes, it rains in the desert) I high-sided and got wound up with the bike in the tumble. Apparently I landed on my back, the bike came over the top of me... kinda rolled me. The guys behind me just tried to avoid the wreck. I got the cornerworker to tell me that I kinda bounced/rolled underneath the bike. The sidecase finished pounding my helmet into the mud. Got a pretty gnarly head injury when the Arai was crushed. I actually can't remember anything from the time I put my gloves on until I started coming to in the ambulance on the way to the ER. Lost about 4 months of work, got to use handicapped plates at a Jimmy Buffett concert though! | ||

Thanks for everyones inputs, but Just to defend my thoughts to all your comments; This is the exact reason why I asked the question in the first place... I thought about the digging factor, if you would read that was apart of the questions, and secondly, I ask to get others input and experiences, such as slaughters crash story, not be mocked/rediculed for asking. so next time you get attitude in answering, actually read the question completely and comprehend what is being asked, then think.... then make comment. | ||

I'm still considering doing the spiked sliders. I put the bike down some time ago and the frame pucks kept the bike off the road. Also with the way the spikes will have to be installed (All-thread) it's not the strongest stuff, therefore I think it would bend the spikes rather than the spikes digging in. But I could be completely wrong as well. We take the risk right off the bat by just getting on the bike. Throw some spikes on there...it's what you want in the end. | ||

I'd love to see a bike all Mad Maxed out. Wouldn't want to ride it, or be near it when it went down, but it'd look pretty bad ass! ~SM |
