Some racers go to a conventional dual disc set up.
Also there at least one custom buell that had dual perimeter brakes so it can be done, just requires a whole lot of custom machining.

The Buell with the duel perimeter brakes is a highly customized Buell by Dana Peterson.

It uses a Marchesini wheel if I recall correctly.

Matt, of Trojan, one of our sponsors, it a big fan of conventional dual disks for racing.

LOL, I'm thinking 2 ZTL's would be equivalent to an ejection seat. In my hands, anyway!

I'd kill for that Dana Peterson headlight assembly.

thanks, guys i'm just thinking of something other than the single disc that seems to kink at low milage. i really don't want to buy a new rotor and have it crap out in a short period of time.

Kink? What kink?

If you're talking about that shuddering sensation you get early on, it's probably stock pad residue. If you see a yucky black smear on your rotors and you're getting vibration, that's probably your real culprit.

Oh your having pulsing? you should of said so, its not the rotor. The factory brake pads leave deposits on the rotor. Grind the deposits off, use Lyndall Gold pads and never have an issue again.

How many miles on your bike?

You may just need to replace your springs. Your rotor may not be "floating" anymore. Just a thought..............

May just have some really heavy deposits..

When I switched to lyndalls I still had slight pulsing..

Took the pads out after a week and sanded them then rebroke them in..

Pulsing gone..

i have just over 10k on it, funny after riding in a huge rainstorm for 80 mi yesterday i rode the bike today and the pulsing is not as bad, i think i'll try sanding the pads and sandblasting the rotor.

No need to go that far. Just use a brake cleaner aerosol (Torco do a very good one) and some wire wool/scotchbrite pad to clean the disc/rotor so that you remove the deposits left by the stock pads. If you are still running stock pads my advice would be to ditch them and try something a little better from Braking/SBS/Lyndall/EBC/Ferodo etc. Most of these offer extremely good sintered pads that won't suffer from the same problem as stock and will also probably cost less : )

Alternatively, fit twin discs......D'oh, now I've gone and done it again ; )

wouldn't you have twice the pulsing/cleaning of deposits with dual ZTL's?

a good scrub-down got rid of the pulsing... for a while. i put on sintered pads, and pulsing is now a thing of the past.

I'm pretty sure that the dual ZTL, single-sided swingarm, tranny sprocket brake bike was at least partially built by Pete at Grandstand Designes. He is a sponsor here and may be able to help you with the dual brakes as well as the headlamp set-up.

Does anyone know how a rear inboard brake feels/Acts? Supposedly it greatly reduces unsprung weight...
