I've only had this '03 XB9R since late June. I'm pretty impressed with it. It's doing a weird thing once in a while that I haven't seen discussed. It's only done it lately, maybe five times total. I'll be riding around 75 mph (120kph), 5th gear, a little over 4000rpm, and there will be a slight "buck", "surge", whatever. There will be a moment of acceleration and the engine will sound absolutely clean, perfect tone, I've no idea how to really describe it. It kind of freaks/surprises me so I've alway shut the throttle and so the moment is gone, and everything continues as before. When I chop the throttle, it does what it's supposed to do, revs drop so it's not a stuck throttle. It's also straight line so we're not looking at a cable issue. Anybody have any idea what is going on? |

my 12S has done the same thing for most of the 2 years I've owned it... always wondered what it was. Glad to know I'm not the only one. "Seems" to not happen on cool days when the ambient temp is <80deg. |

It is real sneaky. You think "is there something wrong?" but then it is gone. Kind of like intestinal gas. |

I asked about this once when I was riding with one of the factory guys (can't remember his name dagnabbit), but he assured not to worry about the occasional engine burps. Things I have noticed - It needs a few minutes to sort things out if I'm out riding in the daytime and into the evening where the air temperature drops substantially. Also, the ECM gets cranky when you near the end of your battery life. It does not like low voltage. Get your battery load tested. |

Cruising along down the road not really paying attention, not on the throttle too hard, just gentle acceleration, I will know right when my rpm's hit 4200. All of a sudden, it's like my girl comes to life. No vibration, and a really strong pull. It's her way of telling me to start looking for the po po's. |

I only really notice the surge when I'm on the slab, and the R's climb slowly. As soon as I hit the magical 4200 rpm's, she takes off on me. Anywhere else, I'm constantly on and off the throttle, so I don't feel it. |
