So...I want to purchase a service manual for my bike(2003XB9S). -Is this a dealer only item or can I score it online and for how much ching? -I am going to switch to the HD synthetics...any tips/advice/do's don'ts...? -I want to open up the primary to check things out(never have trusted others work...no offense) so do I need to replace the gasket at this time? -How many quarts of oil do I need to complete my servicing(so I can get it all at once)? -Does anyone know the part # for the plugs that go in the stock mirror locations? I put bar ends on and want to fill the holes. If they are decent I will get them from the dealer. -Is there an online microfiche for Buells? Thanks and don't mind my question compilation...trying to save space! |

1. Ebay or any one of the sponsors here. 2. No tips here and no issues with that oil. 3. Why open it? Open the access panel to check adjustments maybe? No new gasket for that. 4. 1 in primary, 2.5 in swingarm 5. no clue 6. not that I know of, if ya find one PM me. |

as far as the HD products, my mechanic is HD certified and recommends the Mobil 1, just my experience |

As far as engine oil, there is a long list of good ones. Mobile 1, Golden Spectro, Amsoil, Redline, Lucas Oil, yada yada yada. Now when if comes to Primary oil, that is where you have to be discriminating. Do not use anything that is not "Primary Safe". The reason is, many gear oils out there have an additive that eats away the protective coating that covers the stator. Once that coating is gone, the oil starts to corrode the copper wires coming out of the stator. Once those babies corrode all the way through, pop! All of a sudden your battery stops charging, and you're stranded on the side of the road. Yes, I know this from personal experience. |

i'm not going to get involved in the great oil debate, but i will weigh in on the mirror plugs. do NOT buy anything from the dealership for this purpose. go to a hardware store and get a couple of black plastic plugs (like these: http://www.efc-capsandplugs.com/productspecprint.a sp?35,168,20438 )... i think mine cost like $0.08 each. anyway... good luck. i think you'll find that doing your own service work is fairly easy and very rewarding. |

Since everyone else answered all the questions but #5, I'll give it a try. This is the part number from the 03 XB9R parts manual. 91960-97Y PLUG, mirror mount |

#5, They are just black plastic push clips found on Most cars plastic undercarriages. Just go to your local auto parts store and look for them in like the fastener section. |

Ahhhh...that I didn't know. I thought they were screw in plastic plugs. I will cover that and thanks for the replies. |
