This last change (9000 mi) I switched to Mobil 1 15W50. I had been using Harley 20W50 conventional. It seems to be noticeably more noisy than with the other oil, particularly warm/hot idle and parking lot speeds. It's not a quiet engine to begin with but it seems there is a difference. Anyone else noticed this? Now I'm not talking blow up noisy just a little more clattery. I also changed primary with Formula+. Have not checked primary chain tension but it seems to be a difference related to the oil change. '05 XB12S Jardine Pipe K&N filter Stock ECU (for the moment) Thanks, Chris |

I use Mobil 15/50 in the winter since I live in Texas. I do notice it being a little louder, but man does that engine spool up when using that oil. I love the response I get with it. I am currently running 20/50 Mobil in this 105 degree heat we are stuck in. |

It's noisier because the synthetic is thinner, and masks less noise from the valve train. It should sound something like a blender full of nickels! Schmitty |

I put the Mobil 1 15W50 in mine during the winter, and noticed that the engine was noisier. The next oil change I went back to Mobil 1 V-twin 20W50. |
