Finished up the airbox cover today. I was originally going to paint it a blue metallic, but couldn't find the color I wanted. This is dark charcoal metallic. Let me know what you think. I may still paint it blue, but this will do for now.

That color is sexy as hell! I actually just dyed my white plastics black. It came out a super dark shade of blue that is quickly growing on me. Nice job there Moose

That's the buell select seat. I think that's the name.

I used all duplicolor products from discount auto(rattle can). I still need to wet sand the clear coat and probably do a few more clear coats.

??? It's the bike i bought a few weeks ago. So far i've painted the air box cover, removed the passenger foot pegs and added a bar end mirror.

Yes..seat is the Buell Select..has gel pad built in, W-A-Y more comfy ( and cooler) than the stock Scg seat. raises seat height about 1 1/2 inches. I really like mine!

Nice!

But I'm curious about that groove in the passenger seat--is that some kind of personal gas-relief duct?

Not sure I'd want to ride bitch on that bike after a bean burrito lunch...

Duplicolor makes a really good paint. If he adds enough clear coat he should be fine. For added protection you'd want to use what is called "Bulldog". It comes in a rattle can as well. It's a clear adhesive that you spray on first and this helps the paint stick. I use it on all plastic I paint.

That looks good, I am also a matte finish fan.

I know they make that rattle can paint that's supposed to be matched to the color of the frame, but has anyone with a 12 used it to paint your plastics?

I'd love to have matching frame, subframe, tail piece, all plastics, and that part behind the fly screen. and not like the 09's subframe. I think blacked out is cool, but that's a little weird.

I didn't use any special paint. I used duplicolor primer, paint and clear coat. I sanded the plastic with 600 grit, probably could have used 400 or even 320, then two coats of primer. Wet sanded primer with 600 grit and sprayed the grey metallic, about 3 coats. I wet sanded the color coat with 2000 grit and then sprayed the clear coat. I'll eventually add a few more coats of clear and then wet sand that with 2000. If you wet sand the final clear coat it will help remove the orange peel look, but you'll have to go over it with rubbing compound and a polish to get the shine back.

It feels good to me. Not as hard on my hands and back as my fzr or gsxr. I think i'd prefer the stock bars for long trips though.
