So yesterday when I got home I noticed oil on the left side of my air box, on the clutch lever, and everything below it. Is this possible? Has anyone else seen this before? Is there a fix or other issue that can address? So far only happened once.... Bike: 2005 XB9SX | ||

There is an O-ring that you could try replacing between the cable fitting and the crank case. It could also be loose. I changed my cable without changing the O-ring and had no issues... | ||

Interesting. Is the transmission vent line plugged or pinched? Even a bad crank seal ought to be venting out the transmission vent long before it blows oil out the clutch lever. | ||

Thanks for those couple of things for me to check on. Another Observation to note: On the front side of the engine where the cable runs. There is the convelouted peice of rubber over the adjuster connections, When I slid that up it was full of oil. I guess I will see if it happens again today...It did not happen on my way into work this morning, so maybe this afternoon when it hotter. | ||

Reepicheep has it right. DEFINITELY a pinched or clogged tranny vent line. It gets pinched quite easily when installing a battery. | ||

hmm, this sounds like a good mod to keep the clutch cable lubed, I might just go pinch my vent hose.  | ||

Punkid8888 - yeah only problem is it also keeps you left hand and leg lubed too. | ||

When this happened on our M2, it was a pinched vent line like Reep has said. | ||

Not a bad idea punk kid... Put a rag around the clutch perch, put the compressor in the vent tube, and *carefully* blow some *low pressure* air in there every time you are about to change the primary fluid. I could think of harder ways to lube that cable worse. Probably don't want to do it when you are not changing primary fluid though, as I bet it drags junk back into the tranny when the fluid drains back in after the pressure is gone. | ||

There's a gasket on that fitting where the cable screws into the cover. If you (or someone else) has replaced that cable recently, it may have been pinched or is defective. When I had oil leak from that connection I didn't know there was a gasket there. I ended up replacing the cable due to another reason and it hasn't leaked since. | ||

Majorty rules! The crank case vent was kinked shut. I have re-routed the hose, and I suspect that I will not have a reocurrance of this issue. Thanks all! Court - What story is that? | ||

Check crankcase vent - remind me to tell you the story. Hmmm...I got a story that sounds like it would be remarkably similar to Court's...A couple of years back riding my S2, which had just turned 100,000 miles a couple of months before, with a fellow  member riding his M2 to the Mountains in Virginia. As we get near to Raleigh, he pulls up beside me with a big oil spray on the left side of his gas tank. He yells at me "Hey is your bike leaking?" He had tranny fluid being pushed up his clutch cable due to a recent errant installation of a Forcewinder. His breathers were both kinked over and completely blocked. After I found the root cause of the problem I also took note that there was no carb support bracket on the bike anymore! The Forcewinder instructions don't mention anything about putting the carb support bracket back on - so I'm told. 1313 |
