I got ya didn't I?

I did my first trackday with the motorcycle this weekend at Heartland Park in Topeka. It might have been the most intense thing I have ever done in my life. Came away unscathed, but I think my adrenaline glands and dopamine receptors are scarred for life.

I learned a couple of things about myself.

First, I am unfazed by people passing me, and felt almost no urge to try and chase them down. Must have a weak ego reflex or something.

Second, women on race bikes blowing my doors off with cute little pig tails waving at me from under her helmet turns me on.

I had more fun than should be humanly allowed out there. The XB9R was great. Guys were complaining about a bumpy track, but I didn't have any problems.

Glad I went with new tires. I officially have no Chicken Strip left(very proud of that). Brakes worked well up until the end of the day when I started getting a bad pulsing from the front brake. Same thing happened in Arkansas a couple of weeks ago. Took a wire brush and some sand paper to the pads after that ride and they seemed to work fine until late in the day yesterday. They must be glazed again.

I can see why some people prefer twins on the track. The Firebolt was very forgiving, and I could feed it throttle anywhere I wanted in the curve and never felt it couldn't handle it. I saw several guys on inline 4's break the back tire loose and scramble to save it.

The hook is officially set. I'll definately do it again. I am really proud of myself for taking my time and working to build speed trough the day (little self pat on the back) rather than charging into the red mist. I rode well within my limits and gave myself a great foundation to build on at the next track day.

Extra thanks to Shazam who came out to offer moral support. He provided lots of good cousel and encouragement.

Cool. I hope more Buellers will try a track day. The brake pulsing is troubling though. It shouldn't happen. Unevenly worn pads can definitely lead to a pulsing brake. You might try a new set of pads and swap left for right whenever you change your front tire.

Thats great. As Blake says, lets get more of you out there.

I had the pulsing brake thing for the first 100 miles, then it went away. My XB is only used on the track an now on its 3rd set of brake pads - No clicking/pulsing. (Brake disc is brown not silver though!!).

To get the glaze off pads, I use one of those Scotchbrite green pot scubbing pads. You dont need to remove pad material, just dull the surface. Works for me and many other racers.

Thats awesome! I'm really looking forward to my first track day. I can't wait to really lean this thing over and get a feel for her. I'm mostly waiting on getting the rest of my riding gear.

KC - happy to hear you had a great time. Awesome place to learn and to explore whatever your limits might be.

Sounds like you did it just right - good for you.

"race bikes blowing my doors off with cute little pig tails waving at me from under her helmet turns me on"

Don't let Dave get wind of this, he may not want to be on the track with you at the same time.
