So I need new tires. I want to get a set of Pirrelli Scorpian Sync's. I found a set for around 250 free shipping. but wheni was searching ebay I found a set of Shinko Raven, the price is what I want to pay but I want to know if anyone has heard of the or used them. I want to save money but I really don't want to get a crappy tire. Any info would be apretiated. Thanks Steve | ||

I just got a set of these and so far have nothing but great things to say about them. http://www.motorcycle-karttires.com/glamourindex.aspx?productID=159&LookupID=9 I have heard some not so good things about the shinkos, I have never personally tried them but the comments I've heard is that they are only useful in a straight line. Hey don't screw around trying to save a couple of bucks. Tires are your life. Shop, as you already have, for the best deal on the best tires. You'll sleep better and have more confidence in the bike. | ||

i change tires every 2-3000 miles if not sooner sometimes. it aint cheap, but the only time i have lost enough traction to be on the ground was on the stock dunlop on my xb9. traction is basically the most important thing to me, just shy of full on race tires. i'd rather get less mileage then and up on my face mid corner. that always sucks. i'd love more mileage but not at the expense of anything else. i am at the point i may just get extra rims for long life tires to ride around during the week on and throw the better tires on for the more spirited trips! | ||

BS I say! heh heh of course I appreciate good traction but longer lasting decent tires is an achievable thing... give me a sports touring tire with twice as thick tread and a harder compound in the middle. I want a 10,000+ mile tire and tire companies... you can do it! | ||

Shinko is ok for commuting and occasional twisties... Not the best -- far from the worst..... | ||

I have a set of Shinko Advance tires on my 2006 XB12ss. I had them pit on at 3600m after stock rear Qualifier wore out. I have a little over 4000m on the Shinko's with very little wear. I have rode in pouring down rain no problems, rode my High speed local loop with several 100mph sweepers no problems,probably not good for track days. But for the money so far a good deal. I just finished a set of 009s off on my 12R. They ROTTED before they hit cords- those tires LAST. I put 9700+ miles on my set, never had a problem. I never managed to break the rear loose, and I tried a time or two. Turn in is fairly slow, because they are a kinda sport mostly touring tire. Don't leave them on the bike for more than about 10 months- they'll start to crack in the bottom of the tread. The 003s are track day only, unless you *never* ride in the rain. They are basically DOT legal slicks. The 005s look pretty good, but I haven't run a set (yet). I'd expect less than 3K miles out of them though. Sticky, hard turning miles, but not many of them. If I can ever afford to buy a second set of wheels, I am probably going to run the 009s on my "commute to work" wheels pretty religiously. 10K miles out of a $200 set of tires that to date have handled anything I have thrown at them on highway and around-town riding works for me, even if they aren't a "household name" brand. "Inexpensive" and "cheap" are NOT interchangeable concepts, folks. Merlyn |
