I was tired of repacking my Jardine. So here is what I came up with to replace it. It is made completely of T304 stainless and is baffled inside like a Flowmaster. I need to reset the AFV tomorrow and take if for a ride to see how it performs. It sounds just about as loud as the Jardine it replaced.

Any reason why you coated it black? Stainless would look cool polished, definitely a stand out piece.

I'm trying to stay with the blacked out look. I plan on doing the headers black real soon.

Not trying to tell you how to do your stuff, but you may want to rethink adding a front mount to the top of your "black box" to take any strain off the header, which will cause you to have broken exhaust studs (DAMHIK).

Kudos for thinking "Outside the Box" just had to say that

It uses the Jardine front elbow that has a front mount on it.

Workmanship is nice but don't make the mistake of substituting noise for power. It would be interesting to see how it performs on a dyno, especially as compared to the stocker and Jardine.

Yes. I made all my sliders and the brackets. If this muffler doesn't perform good. I'll most likely be going back to stock for awhile.

It is clamped to the front Jardine elbow. The bracket that is welded on the back/top bolts to the Jardine rear bracket. If it works good. I might try making one that uses the factory brackets and clamps.
It is coated with VHT header paint.

Tattoo, do you know what the diameter of the jardine elbow is, into the muffler?

i have the Jardine on mine and will probably be looking for an alternate muffler (baffled) when this one blows out.

It is 2.25" OD. So you need to find something with a 2.25" ID to fit over it. Luckily I had an old Borla exhaust system from a Mustang GT that had the 2.25"ID piece. That is where I got my inlet and the clamp. I love to recycle old stuff.

funny you mention Borla, as i was looking at their XR1 oval mufflers to try and make work on my CX.

the one you built looks very cool!
reminds me of a Spintech muffler.

do you have any pics of how you did the baffling inside?

Just got back from a test ride. It pulls strong through out the rpm range. Doesn't have the midrange dip like the race can. It's definitely making more power than the stock muffler. It sounds good. Kind of like a cross between a Buell and a Ducati when your on the throttle. At idle it definitely sounds like a buell. It sure doesn't sound like any other buell muffler that i've ever heard.

It'll be hit or miss whether the muffler is as efficent as it could be in a one shot deal without proper R&D, but I gotta say I admire the fact that you did it yourself.

Did you coat the inside with some kind of sound deadener?

I love the bike revving up and vibrating backwards I like the sound and I will wager to say you could drop weight with that style of muffler in alloys or aluminum very well done and clean looking piece

I have no plans to dyno it. I've seen to many vehicles grenade on a dyno. I do plan to do some dataloging and get it tuned to the new muffler.
There is no sound deadener inside. Just the baffles. It's not as light as the Jardine but is a lot lighter than stock. Plus it will never rust or rot like a stock muffler.

Real nice looking piece.

Here is a very rough suggestion for a shape that would mount using the stock mounting system, but would retain much of the cool "bread box" look.

Shouldn't be much more difficult to build either. No compound curves.
