Is this a Special OPS pipe for an XB9? I just bought it on Ebay, thinking is was for a 12 (the description says it came off a 2007 Uly), but now I realize it's probably for a 9 since there's no interactive valve.

If it's actually for a 9, does anyone know how well it will it perform on a 12?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&item=140252236912

Thanks in advance...

i think that is one that someone built themselves. sure doesnt look like any pipe i know.

it probably was off of a 9, but most after market pipes get rid of the exhaust valve anyway so dont worry about it.

The thickness and angle of the tip looks like an early Drummer (not certain)... here is a pic of my early one. I have not seen another altered stock pipe with the thicker tip then a Drummer.

it does look similar to a drummer, but i dont think it is. i could be wrong though.

in the pics it looks like the end cap is welded on instead of bolted. its close, but for some reason it doesnt look exactly right.

The one I posted in the pic is welded on...in fact the new Drummer I just installed is welded. I had asked Kevin to make this can like the older version with the end-cap welded and the tip is welded on like the earlier ones.

Looks like a race can turned into an old style Drummer.

If Kevin confirmed it as a Drummer I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I needed another one...

its is not a spec opps, other than that I dont know, but if I had to guess id say it would be fine on your 12. bolt it on there and see, it has to sound better than stock!

I thought it was a Drummer at first also - that's why I grabbed it so quickly at that price! However, after buying it, I realized that I'd never seen a silver or stainless drummer before. From the pics, it almost looks like stainless steel, not painted or coated silver.

Oh well, I guess I'll find out soon...if it's a drummer I got a great deal! If it's a home hack-job, it'll probably go back on Ebay again...

I have one on order.

Randy seems to be a great guy. Really loves the buell and tinkering with it. We are waiting on an xb9 pipe without the valve. He said that with no valve it's easier for him to do a dual outlet configuration.

I plan on posting up when I get the pipe.

Well, I received it yesterday. It was actually an early-style Drummer, which was jet-coated silver. I sent an email to Kevin and he confirmed it was one of his early (welded) Drummers.

I installed it yesterday and it's WAY LOUD! In fact, way too loud for my taste. I went back to stock, and I'm going to put this back on Ebay.

Here's the link if you're interested:

I'll also consider a trade for a Buell Race muffler.

Does anyone have a sound clip from one of these? I have a race can, and I might be interested in a trade (need to do some research). I'd hate to get the thing and find out it makes my ears bleed though....

Just how loud IS it?

Well, in all honesty, it's the loudest pipe I've ever heard. I've owned several Harleys and two buells now with multiple different exhausts, and this thing is LOUD. I have a feeling it may have been one of Kevin's special "loud" Drummers that he doesn't make anymore.

Just wear fitted earplugs, $15 at your local gun shop or you can find some online. I started to after getting my SpecOps (I can ride with out them, just happens my Arai resonates at just above idle with the exhaust note), and I have noticed I am less tired after rides now. From what I have read the white noise and what not wears you out over extended periods when you ride. Works for me so far.

My SpecOps is louder than stock but I love it -- finally sounds the way it "should" IMHO (Drummers are nice too, don't get me wrong, and race pipes come in a quiet third). Besides, tripping car alarms in Seattle parking lots is fun!

Well, I found a comparison on youtube of the stock vrs Drummer, and I checked the dyno runs for both on the American Sport Bike exhaust shootout....

Wanna trade mufflers?

Doesn't look like I'll lose enough HP or Torque to really matter (2-3 each), I'll get rid of that HUGE hole in the torque curve from 4500-5500, and the one on YouTube sounds very, very nice. Puts me in mind of a big block V8 somehow.

Long as it's not as loud as the Shovel I used to have- My lady could hear me coming from 2 1/2 blocks away- and we lived on the 18th floor of a high-rise (no exaggeration!)

Shoot me an email at merlyn.graves@gmail.com if you're still interested in my race can, and we'll work out the details.

Sorry, it already sold on Ebay yesterday. I may be interested in buying your race can outright though. Send me a PM if you want to sell it...

Sorry- the race can is the current muffler on my bike- I'd have been parked while we made the trade :: chuckle ::

Thanks anyway!

Ez_rider hang on to it.

I have just had baffles made for Drummer mufflers, and I will be selling them on BuellerParts in about 3 weeks.

The inserts are not tested or endorsed by KDFab, but they have agreed to factory fit them to all of the mufflers they make for my store, and they have helped me with the logistics of having them developed.

The insert works well. Two plates - mild and wild. Both sound good. On the test bike there was no pop on decel, and no sensation of loss of power. (A dyno may show different, but the bike had good power on tap with the insert)

They will go for $75 AU. Badweb discount of 5%. If you are interested I could talk with KDFab to see if your tailpipe is the same or if we need to make a slightly different diameter for you.

The Drummer is a great muffler, and this adds a bit more flexibility to its use.

Edit: Just read to the end - too late.

Aren't the drummers and special ops offerings basically a gutted muffler?
