So I wrecked for the second time on Sunday (sunday the 13th again too...), followed a guy as he went right off the road apparently. I don't remember it but from what I was told we both were going too hot for the turn (90*), he was in front of me and went off the road, I fixated on him and followed suit. He made it out fine; I smashed into a metal fence and broke my femur. If you've never broken your femur, I'd like to offer the advice of DON'T DO IT it hurts sooooo so bad, even with the morphine and other painkillers. They did surgery yesterday, put a nice big rod all the way down the bone from my hip to my knee.

As far as the bike goes, I think someone said the tail section was broken and a peg and mirror and that's all that's obviously broken. It's gonna cost me $400 just to get it out of the damn yard!v

Have a rod going down my right femur and two screws above my knee holding it in. Had one screw just below my hip but that was removed because it had an infection growing on top of it. plus a whole lot more to go with that broken Femur.
You'll be fine in a couple weeks.
Good to see your still around.

I as well have a titanium rod from hip to knee. My femur was shattered from a bullet (not fun.) Glad your ok, bones heel, bikes get fixed, and lessons are learned. Unless you’re in my case, I put dude in jail then sued him. It did make me feel better.

I've got the Ti rod from the knee down to the ankle with three screws. Got an embolism in the process and nearly died. It sucked. I am a much slower rider now, very slow at the track recently. It took the fire right out of my belly. Still riding, but want to be around longer to raise the kids.

Good news:
1) The airport machines don't register titanium.

2) It's great to no longer wish I had the fastest production bike available. I'm very happy with the XB and my 10 year old GSXR 750.

Apologies for what will probably be a stupid question but... Are the rods permanent or can they be removed once the bones heal?

Some doctors take them out, some leave them in. Apparantely if you break it with the rod in you are screwed because it gets bent or broken and they can't get it out very easily. The bone also heals stronger if they take it out.

My doctor left mine in and treats a lot of motocross injuries the same way. I'm fine with it in, can't tell it's there.

Zpyro, where did the accident happen?

I think I missed you at the Customer Appreciation Ride last month. Peggy said you were there, or at least that a young rider on a white '08 XB12R was.

Sorry about your accident, heal quick, and slow down on the roads.

Tbowdre, I was wearing a leather jacket with armored shoulders and elbows, armored leather gloves, knee/shin guards and boots. I don't think there's any gear I could have worn that would have protected my femur from the blunt force trauma of running into the metal pole

The gear probably helped your skin and muscle from getting as ripped up, but your right, something has to absorb th impact.

Glad you're alive and in good humor.

Mmmm. I got one in the femur from a 15 tonne roller running over me, but the bone was the least of my worries.2 and a half years on, and I'm still in some heavy pain, but it ain't from the broken femur! Oh and if you want to go crazy stay on the morphine, it really makes a mess of things.
