I own an 05 xb12r that has proven its self to be damn near bullet proof. I was on a Sunday ride with the ruff ryders inland empire chapter on Sunday it was meant to be an easy ride from Temecula to Oceanside on the 15 then on the 76 then down the 101 to La Jolla. There were about 35 bikes and I have to say I was impressed with their organization. There were 2 cars that were either blocking traffic on the 15 to allow copious amounts of wheelies or filming said wheelies. After about 10 miles of this they calmed down and we preceded in a staggered two up formation. Half way to Oceanside there was a truck that was pacing us in the number 1 lane on the 76. We were in the slow lane doing the speed limit and for the most part obeying all traffic laws save a couple of wheelies and the occasional running of red lights to stay with the group. I was about 5 bikes from the front of the pack which means ten bikes or so in front of me when the truck that was pacing us cut over (unclear if the truck was watching us and got distracted and veered unintesionaly or if the person hates motorcycles) and hit this kid on a gsxr he lost control and went down taking 3 other bikers down as well. To avoid hitting other bikes I couldn’t go right or left so I went right down the center and I hit bike that was spinning wile it slide. I went over the handlebars and landed on anther bike my bike came over and the tail section landed on me. Immediately every on jumped up and started grabbing bikes or running for the shoulder, with the exception of the kid who got hit. People help him to the side of the road and kept him still and head stable till paramedics got there. When every own was safe and traffic being routed by riders who didn’t go down I inspected my bike. I found little damage and other than really sore hands and some road rash I was fine. The cops and ambulance arrived and they were informed of the truck. The kid who was hit road his bike with the others on to the destination there was only one person who went with ambulance and from what I heard just had a broken toe... or foot depending on who I asked. We went on to the beach were I got sun burned and had a hot dog. all and all not a bad day

Wow, that is horrible story! Glad most of you made out ok.

Personally I don't care if it was an accident or not, the guy in the truck should be charged at the full extent of the law. Assault with a deadly weapon, carless driving, being an idot, etc...Its usually the careless, unatentive drivers that get most other people killed.

It's a good thing there's no room to keep a gun on a bike, as I would likely use it in such a situation. I bet 16 9mm rounds through his engine compartment would convince him to stop. Wow, the smilies on this forum are armed to the teeth.

I do all my own work on my bike so the bill wont be that bad and yes the truck kept going the driver was some lady and the cops were given a full description but I doubt they will find her. and moosestang its a good thing that people arent quick to shoot if it was an accident she should pay with money not her life. (sorry to be preechy Ill get off my soap box now). There was a guy that had a bullet proof vest under his ruff ryders vest the odds were good some one had a gun that day.

Stuff like this invites accidents. The guy in the truck should receive the full punishment the law allows for their actions, but the environment the Ruff Riders create around them bears responsibility as well.

Sucks to hear that...glad everyone made it out relatively ok...

It almost seems that everytime there is that big of a group of bikes something bad happens. Something similar happened this year at bike week. Unfortunately there was one death.

I live in Oregon, there is plenty of room on my bike or hip or backpack..LOL I agree with you my G19 would have been defending another person from and assault with a weapon.

I am glad to hear that everyone got out with little to no harm. I do hope htat charges are pressed against the guy int he truck. The only issue may be, in CA when you have a certain numebr of people traveling together it is called parrading. I know this was an old law, but may be brought up against you guys and that would suck A#$.

Happy to hear that all are well. I agree with Firebolt32 though. Large groups of riders = bad accidents.

After being witness to a wreck in South Dakota, I won't ride in a large group. Watched a group in parade formation lose it on a corner.(40+ bikes) One bike down turned into a scene that I would rather not describe.

To say the least . . . I ride with four or less bikes in a group. Or we just hang back in a our own little pack. Congregations of bikes are best at shows and bike nights.

Once again, happy all are safe. Hope your bike gets back to good and hopefully your 'close-call' is the last of the season.
