This is a bit off-topic but relevant to my last post maybe - I read in the '04 Lightning FM:
"An idle speed too low can cause poor throttle response. An idle speed too high can cause a slow return to idle."
Recommended idle speed is 1050 to 1150 rpm.
My 12 has always idled (since new, and after tps reset) at just under 1000 according to the tacho...hmmmm...

Anyway I'd better get out of here and go to bed, and Bubba I'd love to be able to send you an Aussie woman but she refuses to get off the 12 - oh yeah, in my dreams! :)

Opto, you may be onto something with regards the idle speed. One of the first things I usually do after purchasing a bike new or used is bump the idle speed up slightly and set correct cable freeplay at clutch and throttle. I've found that these simple adjustments make a world of difference in drivability.

How about a Drummer fan club? With a Drummer logo patch, decals and a framed picture of Buckinfubba.
;)

fan clubs are for the olsen twins !!!

Ted is your computer working well again.....

since your tps has been reset all you need to do is get it up to operating temp. and get an allen wrench and adjust the idle. but it is true the idle setting does affect it. just turn it up a little. I have found that the 12's are more sensative to this than the 9's

Brian:
Just got the bike back from having the TPS reset. Seems to have smoothed everything out. I will give a better test on the way home tonight. 4 or 5 blocks is not a legitimate test.

I think I have solved the mysterious Check Engine Light illumination. I was thinking that, since I installed the ECM and pipe, I hadn't heard the engine fan. I checked the fuse, reinserted it, and not had the same problem since. Funny thing, now when I use the engine shut off switch, the fan now runs. It didn't do that before. Could the loose fuse be the problem for those symptoms?

you betcha it was...it musta not been getting contact. That fan should run everytime you turn the bike off if you've been riding it for more than 10 miles or so.

now that your set get out there and ride it like hell and let us read your smile

Brian:
You have one happy customer out here! Are you sure that motor doesn’t rev to 9 or 10K? Sure feels like it would; don’t think I’ll try. Smooth as kitten too. Can you tell I have another G-rin larger than the one when I first picked up the bike?

Wasn’t able to tell about the torque. It was dark and lane splitting is not a good place to test it. Traffic was a bear tonight, very few brakes in the traffic, even for a bike. The 12 Airbox came in and picked it up on the way home also. Throw it on tonight, leave for work a little early when the sun is up, and take the long way for a little fun.

It is above and to the left to the airbox intake. Needs a allen wrench, not sure what size. I adjusted mine at work.

If I'm not mistaken. The instructions that come with the race kit tell you to take the snorkel out. I bought my bike with the race kit installed, no snorkel.

I took apart the velocity stack and was trying to figure out how they removed it. Mine is all one piece into the throttle body. Is the goal to remove as much of the diameter into the insert into the throttle body? I thought about cutting the thing, but wanted to make sure. Razor knife? After Market?

Thanks

Keith

Keith -
Before you start cutting that velocity stack... You will gain more flow by replacing the stack with one that is the same size internal diameter but has a lip that roles around more.
The first time I saw that horn I immediately wondered why they made the roll so short. I am trying to find the math equations for it.
Built a couple for cars and experimented alot with them. Spun aluminum is the trick wau to go... and cbjames from the msnbc board could probably build one because he runs a gunsmith... but fibre glass/ carbon fibre will be a lot cheaper. It will just take a little patience and a craftsmans hand. I am planning on building one for my bike after I move in January and hopefully have a garage again to do this cool stuff. If I find the books tonight I will bring them by your office tomorrow. Call you before I head over.

So B,
I thought that snorkel was there to also provide cooling air to the rear cylinder...you are referring to the one on the left side right below the frame or is this snorkel under the "fuel tank" shell?
