My bike used to run pretty rough at low rpms. Going slow in town with the rpms below 3K was quite herky jerky. I would pretty much have to stay in first gear to keep the revs above 3K and I had to learn how to fan the clutch like an expert Well... a few weeks ago I had to pull my fuel pump because it was popping my ign fuse. It turned out that I had two chaffed wires. I believe one had been chaffed since the bike was practically new because the pump never shut off. Turn key and it would just run continuously and was loud. Since I fixed the wires the pump is quiet and it shuts off after 5 seconds of turning the key on. I got to ride it slow in traffic today and noticed to my absolute shock and delight that she is now SMOOTH at low rpms! I can go 25mph in second gear with the rpms at 1800-2000 and she is very silky for a 45 degree V-Twin. I am definitely not a mechanic and certainly don't know squat about fuel injection but I'm thinking that maybe the pump running continuously was overloading the injectors and making it impossible for the ecm to moderate properly What I do know is that it's the end of an error Nothing but Buellitful smooth riding in the foreseeable future. My bike has always been furiously fun in the twisties and now I find her to be a complete joy to ride at slow town speeds as well. I live in a very rural area and only spend maybe 6% of my time riding at slow speeds so this problem never bothered me. It certainly never bothered me enough to go searching for a solution so this sudden smoothness is like a huge bonus |
