I called New Castle Harley (PA) today. My 03 Lightning has been popping on deceleration. Yesterday it was downright backfiring. Asked how much to do a TPS reset. Dave the service manager quotes $10 bucks. Says that takes no time at all. Sweet! I asked if he could do it for me if I came up today. He says he can work me in. Awesome. 3pm rain. I ride almost an hour up in pouring rain. As soon as I walked in and told the guy at the counter what I came for, he sent a tech to get the bike. I go over to parts and get plugs and wires, shirt for me, shirt for a friend. When checking out the guy says there is no R.O. in the computer for me. I go to the service desk and the Guy says Dave said no charge. That's why there is no R.O. Wow! I went back paid for my other swag and was off. Before i left I told the clerk in parts that they have always been the best dealer to go to. I told him a story about Dave replacing my wheel bearings under recall. I had it in to get my new tires mounted and balanced. He only charged me $1.50. for wheel weights. That's the way ALL dealerships should treat their customers. I've been going there for three years Always the best!!

Thats really cool -- way it should be.

Wish the ones I have been too were like that -- best dealership I know is a local metric dealer and thats only because I am friends with the parts guru and one of the shop guys is the same guy who painted my helmet. They both are cool and put up with me riding something they don't sell (sales guys give me nasty looks but I don't care), and they help me figure the odd thing out.

I wish they would start carrying Buell stuff -- would make my day. As it is I might get a track-purposed bike from there SOLELY because I have been treated so well. Sometimes I wonder if the owners get how much being treated well and like a valued customer matters to some of us. Or maybe it just seems obvious to me since I grew up in a family that had diplomats and military on one side and CEOs on the other and learned how much respect and reputation matter.

I'm jealous.

I have had nothing but rotten attitude and overpriced parts at HD. A co-worker has a 1125r and goes to the same dealer. He received a recall that was to be performed by the local dealer mechanics. Something with his ecm, I believe. The mechanic told him he couldn't get it to work, but don't worry about it. Needless to say he trailered his bike 60miles to have done.

I repeat, I'm jealous.

Retrittion - My local metric dealer wouldn't change my tires because it is not a bike they sell. (First I was told they didn't have SAE tools). I only went in because I didn't have time and didn't want scorpions. Now I will just do it myself at the 'dirty' bike shop.

At least Wal-mart can't kill the local Mom & Pop bike shops.

Good for you, Vdub, and thanks for telling us about the good ones. Truly wish we were beating a dead horse here. Maybe if we keep it up, dealer attitudes will change, and this WILL become a dead horse. FWIW, I happened to be in the greater Miami area back in March. Went to an H-D/Buell dealer, and they had Buell on the floor, a small selection of clothes and accessories, ect. They also had a left over 2002 X-1W, that they were willing to let go for something in the 13K range. Guess they are more collectible than I thought! I have to wonder about how well 6+ yr old gaskets and seals (that haven't been exercised) would perform. Anyway, spent about a hour on the floor, and the only person I talked to was the gal at the register when I paid for 2 t-shirts.

Later that same day, went into a Mega Moto Sport type of place. The GSXR-750 is nice. The point is that I didn't get 10ft inside the door when an employee approached and "Hi, I'm Sam from Mega Moto Sport, can I help You?" Wonder which business is truly interested in building a customer base.

I also had a TPS reset done for no charge. It was at White's HD/Buell in Lebanon, PA. They treated me very well....I rode about an hour in the rain.

That's funny. I got my TPS reset yesterday at Earl Small's, Atlanta. I asked what the damage was and they said I don't owe anything, I was shocked, put a smile on my face!

You know it's nice (for a change) to hear someone say something good about a dealer I know we all have had problems at one time or another and then we post and cry all over the place. BUT we hardly ever post when the dealer does right, or beyond right.

Glad to hear you had a good trip, Vdub.
