Well, OK...

I've said this before, but I think I may have found a smokin' deal on insurance... $1080 a year for comp/collision and the state minimums.

IF this holds up, I'll be the proud new lien payer of a Buell XB12R. Keep your fingers crossed.

Will do, thanks :). I guess I'm still a bit leary of buying a sled in Iowa from Arizona... What would I do for service? I suppose I don't mind doing it myself but if that's the case I may as well buy it from here. I don't want to though, I've heard so much good about you and Iowa HD.

The 2 year warranty is good at any Buell dealer in the country.

I think there was a thread or discussion recently on the state of Arizona and the state of Buell dealerships there. Probably be well advised to track down the discussion and read up a bit.

Except in 3/4 of them you wouldnt want their "tech" near a Buell.

Well, if that's the case then, all I have to worry about is the shipping charge for the privilige of buying from Dave. I'm actually thinking I can do all the work myself except the electronic stuff and I know there's a guy around here that had a Buell in his shop called "Air Cooled Performance"... I'll see if I can find him and ask about the electronic stuff. I seem to remember he had a Buell in his shop hooked up to a laptop at one point. I do computers for a living so maybe I just need software :) (And If I can't find the software I'll bet I have a few friends that could write it...)

You will need a Buell dealer in order to perform a TPS reset..or zeroing it as some folks prefer.

The software is not available & nobody has had any luck yet coming up with an alternative.

Does it require a PC hooked up to the bike in order to zero it? What about a different fuel/spark timing/butterfly valve map? I would imagine that the fuell/spark/butterfly map could be freely traded on the net as long as you had a laptop with the proper port configuration and software for downloading into the computer (ECM?) on the Buell. My guess would be that if one could come up with that, they would also be very close to what they need to do a reset as well. Anyone know who makes the fuel injection system on the XB's?

Best leave the TPS reset to your local dealer. Only reason you should need it is to install the Race ECM and related modifications which will most likely void your warranty anyway. Just depends upon the dealer.

In all sincerity, from Erik Buell's presentation at the 20th Banquet, you really don't need to do a thing to the bike during the two year warranty period. Stock, the XB12's produce about the same rear wheel HP and Torque that a race modified (Race ECM, modified intake and exhaust) and dyno tuned X1 does without any of the warranty hassles.

Additionally, the bike is still a "new model" and by the time your warranty is up, there will be an abundance of proven ways (read: let others do the long term R&D testing for you on their bikes) to modify your bike in order to get the additional performance and longevity you desire from it.

Just a suggestion, but something you may want to seriously consider.

I say Bill has the answers to the power deal with the 12. Leave it alone, the damn bike has enuff power in stock form that you want be needing any additional for quite some time.

But you know folks are going to be drilling the airbox & putting on some noisy exhaust that doesnt work for shit & then they are going to have issues & blame the bike.

Come on Dyna you don't know that.I talked to Erik about the pro series kit for the 12 and he said it would give you gains in the top end.My thoughts great but as long as it doesn't hamper the bottom end.And if it does how much???

why are you so against people wanting to make their bikes better, i see where on your Q&A page you have added Mods to your Bike. Hell anyone who keeps the stock exhaust on the XB9s is dopey, main reason they sound like crap..I say Mod AWAY !!!

I say mod away AFTER the warranty expires. Quite frankly too... I think probably 80% (Me included) of the people who own them can't make 99% use of what they have with a firebolt anyway.

For those of you who race them (or OT anyway), what RPM's do you find you run between on the straights?

I shipped a 9R all the way to Big Pine Key FL last year.

I always recommend people buy from their local Buell dealer, unless they suck, then buy from me!

You do the same shipping for service appointments too?

Seriously, you or Brian should move to the tri-state area and support us New Yorkers.

No no no... Move to northern AZ. The Mountains are beautiful, the weather is ALWAYS perfect, EXCELLENT Buell roads everywhere, Ski slopes an hour north, Lakes an hour south, Good hunting right here, good hiking everywhere...

There is NO better place (Except Alaska).

There's plenty of women up here, as my property is next to the Bedford women's correctional facility. Doubt you could get in for a date, but every so often someone escapes, and I am sure they are not too picky.

HA!! I know a guy (My room-mate) who is a shrink at one of those places around here and probably COULD get you in for a date... Maybe they could set you up in a padded cell with a straight jacket on with a half dozen women. Hmm, that sounds almost fun...

I'd REALLY like to buy from Dave (And it seems to be working out that way) but I REALLY don't want to have to pay to ship something that I most likely could pick up here... I think what will make it worth it is that I can pick Dave's brain any time I want via this forum and I'll convince him that he should send me all the parts I need during the warranty period and I'll do the work myself. Other perks may show up as well so we'll see. I just know I'll be getting one come hell or high water (or ANYTHING else for that matter).

Freakin SHEESH!!! I'm may just write a book about what some people may go through to buy a Buell... I have to sell my freakin Benelli M1-Combat!!! It's my fault though, I should have spent the $1062 I spent on the Shotgun paying off old debt anyway so I guess all I can say is it's Karma/Ironic... Anyway, more updates to come I'm sure.

I figure I put about 50 rounds through it and can sell it for $750 so that's a cost of about $7.44 a shot. GRRR!!!! Except I have 50 good rounds for it now so I can up it to 100 this weekend if it doesn't take my shoulder off first.

Wish me luck eh?

Kick ASS!! I just gave the VIN off that bike I sat on to the insurance company I found the other day and it stays at 1080 a year with full coverage and $500 deductible. Life is good.

I'll be calling goodyear today to talk to them about some old debt and then this whole process will get underway :).

Dave, If you would like to call me I know where there's a black XB12R only 40 miles from me... we could save some shipping money...
