Hello from Kalamazoo! Long time lurker/infrequent poster. Just received a package from Al at American Sport Bike. Included are the Micron exhaust (silver ceramic coated pipe), XB open airbox kit, XB catch can, crankcase filter, Direct link and map, 03 to 04+ belt conversion kit, Lyndall gold+ brake pads front and rear plus misc. items.

Al fixed me up with mucho info on the Micron and direct link and other stuff, and I've found a lot of great info here on Badweb to do most of the other work. Also have a manual.

Any suggestions on an order of work? Might seem funny, but I opened the box and went HOLY CRAP, where do I start! It's a fun cool problem!!! I'll appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

I'll let you all know how it turns out, can't wait!

Tom

I would fit the exhaust first as the exhaust is the biggest job as you have to rotate the engine.
You also have to take the airbox cover etc off to do the exhaust so you are as well doing the airbox and the breather/catch can mod at the same time.
Once it's back together re-map the bike as you need it to run properly.
Then do the brake pads so you can stop with all that extra power.
Then do the drive belt conversion.
I done the drive belt conversion earlier on in the year and I couldn't believe the difference in the size of the belt.It makes the old one look like a rubber band.

Did you just get a big bonus from work?
You must be loaded.

1) Be sure the wheel bearings aren't black, they should have been replaced on a recall to orange.

2) You may want to eliminate the kickstand switch. Its been an issue with many 03's.

3) If you rotate the motor, you may as well replace plugs

4)(should have been #1) Buy an '03 Shop Manual.

Thanks for the advice Norrie and Buellinachinashop. I've got the manual, plugs were in the misc. items, so they will be done. Bearings are orange so OK there.

The switch you speak of, do you mean unplug it or remove it?

No bonus, just treating myself to some Buell upgrade goodness! : )

Have you also got a K&N filter if not buy one.If you already have one clean it at the same time.
Remember and take the bike for a good steady run at around 3500 RPM for a good 20 miles as it will let the ECM set itself up.
Oh and buy earplugs if you have the Micron as it's supposed to be LOUD.

Norrie.

Got the K & N too. Hope the Micron's not super loud. I want louder then stock, but not ear bleed loud. I've heard it's not so loud at idle or cruise, but quite loud when on the gas. Thanks for the advise!

Hi all, progressing slowly due to too much other work (DOH!) to do and also being mechanically CHALLENGED!: ). Anyway, I'm at the point where the stock exhaust is off and I'm ready for the Micron install. My question is how do the gaskets go on? Butted up against the end of the pipe, or seated in the exhaust port? It looks kind of difficult to put them where you want them to make sure they are seated properly, how is that done? Also, when I removed the stock tubes, I didn't see any gasket at all. Is this the norm for stock?

Thanks for your help.
PS I have this question into Al at American Sport Bike but their shop is closed right now.

Well, in better light this morning I could see the old gaskets, so I removed them and proceeded with the install. No real issues, except lack of time . Anyway, the Micron is on!!!, belt upgrade and the other stuff as I get time the next few days.

Hi all,
Well, done for the day, I got the rest of the bike together. That included open airbox, catch can, plugs (well, plug, I fubared a new one trying to gap it), rivet eliminator, brake pads, oil change, clutch adjustment. Still have to do Direct link (wife spilled coffee in the laptop DOH!) and the belt upgrade. My daughter is bringing her laptop over tomorrow so the direct link should be done then. I think I might have Bell's Hog Barn do the belt. I don't have a compressor or air tools to pull the nut off the drive pulley. Still thinking about it I guess.
Anyway, started it up, nice rumble at idle, BIG GRIN for me!!! Runs pretty good (but probably lean) for not being remapped yet. It didn't seem that loud going down the road, but I will probably wear earplugs for longer rides. No pics yet, as I don't know how to use my wife's camera. But I'll learn how to do that too, what the hell!
Thanks for the kind words!!!
