My 9s was knocked over in the parking lot of a local bar&grill. I dont think it was by a idiot in car, but purposely pushed over.

Any how I think the handle bar took most of the hit (with a broken bar-end mirror)

On the ride home there is a shudder that gets worse as the i slow down with the front brake. I think the steering head might have loosened as a result(?)

i will need to check the play with the wheel off the ground. (sv manual)
its unclear to me how to actually re torque the head.
do I need to remove the handle bar?
i see the pinch bolt is removed.. then i guess the Cap nut is loosen & re-torqued?

any advise is appreciated.

not what i'm sayin at all Ted, you may or may not have experienced the kickstand tricks these bikes perform on their own. if set at the right angle running or not if that stand is at a wierd position they can fold. if i were to guess.... i would say your bike fell on the left side? if so i highly doubt someone did it. the running joke is that XB's do it to get their owners attention!

thanks Torque, i didnt get to much into how it tipped to keep the post shortish.

but in this case it was on its right side.
the pavement is inclined so it actually leaned over more to left so it took some effort to wind up on the right side.

i was parked in a space that was closest to the building so no car was on the left.

Did by chance the bar have any cameras?

You might get a better glimpse what really happened.

If you put them in reverse the XB's won't tip over!

That Suck Ted.
Hopefully your bike doesn't cause you too much grief in the 'fixing' phase.

My bike was tipped over on the right side once (it had only seven miles on it). I left the dealership and headed directly to my folks home. My father and father-in-law were unpacking suitcases while wrenching in the garage. Both dads wanted to test it out (of course). In their current states, I requested that the test drives be postponed. But both took a turn at sitting on the newest steed in the stable. Once my father-in-law decided he had enough sitting. He clambered off a his perch and leaned my bike over to the kickstand . . . on the right side.

It only cost HIM a footpeg and a punishment of me always reminding him which side a kickstand is on.

Might have been a stumbling bastard with the guts to sit on your bike. I just hope that you aren't sucked into buying parts and missing any opportunities to ride. Best of Luck and maybe . . . find a new bar.

dunno bout you, but my comprehensive deductible is really low.
you might wanna try to see what your insurance will give you for repairs...and then do the work your self.

Does anyone know the torque spec for the head bolt though? and actually the size, it looks like a pretty big hex head!

Sorry about the damage first off. Some people just need to get a clue!!

According to '06 SM, you should first remove bars to be able to get to it, then loosen fork and stem pinch bolts, loosen and re-torque capnut to 38-42 ft-lbs, stem pinch bolt to 20-22 ft-lbs, and fork clamps to 23-25 on upper and 20-22 on lower. Keep in mind that you should fully remove all hardware except the capnut and clean the threads and apply red loctite. Having never done this and feeling less than interested to tear off my bars to size the capnut, I don't know that part.

Hope this helps!!
