I know none of us bought an XB for gas mileage, but I've been keeping stats on it for the first 4,500 miles. I'll probably get bored with it later on, but for discussion sake, here is the chart:  I'm not that hard on the throttle, but I wonder how the '04s can be rated at 65 mpg highway. I have 1800 mi. on my 9S and get btwn 44-47. I don't think I'm that hard on it. I'm using Hi-test. Whats everybody else using? I tried reg. once, it pinged a few times but its hot still in Az. It is said you'll get better mileage with reg gas. | ||

My XB9R is just shy of 5000 miles, My mileage has varied from a low of 48.7mpg and a high of 53.5mpg, My average is usually better than 50mpg. I run premium fuel and almost never ride at the speed limit (mostly faster). The Buell fuel mileage tests are probably run in a controlled manor just like automobile EPA ratings. | ||

I am averaging about 55 in mostly local trips. I have not done a long trip to see how that would go. Very happy with mileage. I had a 600 ninja and was lucky to get 42. | ||

they are epa testing and none of those boring guys and gals ride like we do. ...the speed limit be damned and nice roll on in an adult manner should ever be in our worlds... besides I didn't buy a yugo...I bought a buell!!!! | ||

I average 80-96miles per framefull,depending on the type of riding. Having a "modified" airbox has'nt helped matters. The XB seems to run better/smoother on Shell "optimax" I would'nt know what is called in the US but it's approximatly 20 cents more per litre than regular pump fuel. | ||

I get between 48-55mpg, running Amoco Ultimate 93 octane in mine. I usually get about 130 miles before the reserve light kicks on, and I'm good for a solid 30 after that before I start to get concerned. 14,600+ miles. Bryan | ||

Buckin, I think we all buy theses types of m/c's for performance 1st. but theres a chincy bastard in all of us. M/c's are the greatest hobby in the world because they can fit in your everyday life, you don't have to set aside time like fishing, hunting, camping, etc. I ride everyday here in az on errands and for fun, the grocery store is 15 miles away. With gas prices aproching 2 bucks a gallon , gas mileage is a good 2nd issue after performance. If you have a p/u truck getting 10-12 mpg, your buell may pay for its self @ 50 mpg. in gas bill savings. Out of the 25+ bikes I've owned in the last 30 years, harleys have always been top in gas mileage. I had a Goldwing that got 35 mpg, that sucked. | ||

My XB12R got 47 miles per gallon on the last tank(all city driving). Its got 960 miles on it now and has been getting better and better fuel mileage wise. I run the bike as hard as anyone so the mileage could be better if I wasn't beatin on it so much. The XB9R w/race kit I had averaged a little over 50 mpg city and I actually got 62 mpg on one trip that I took. | ||

I'm with Steelshoe on this one. I'm a cheap bastard with a 1972 GMC Jimmy 4WD that gets 8-10 miles per gallon. Average person puts 10,000 miles a year on their car (so says my insurance company) At 10mpg, gas averaging $1.65 for regular unleaded, I'll spend $1650 a year in gas. That same mileage on one of my bikes at a mere 50mpg costs me $370 a year at $1.85 a gallon for premium. I've saved $1280 by riding a motorcycle. It's also cheaper for me to insure 2 newish motorcycles with full coverage, than 1 old truck with liability only (but that's another discussion) In the real world, I get to ride 300+ days a year. Average snowfall in Denver is 60+ inches a year, so I do use my truck on occasion. Since I bought my Harley in May 2001, I have put 4200 miles in my truck and a combined 36,200 on the two bikes. If all of those miles would have been put on my truck I would have spent over $6500 in gas in the past 2 years. Feel free to use this argument to persuade the Mrs. to let you buy a new bike (or two). The gas savings alone will make it pay for itself in the long run, and you can send fewer greenbacks to the boys in OPEC. | ||

Hmmm.. So far I've gotten about 121 miles out of a frame full..That's about 32.7 mpg of premium.. and most of that was kind of hard on the throttle type riding on my XB9R with factory race kit installed. Hmmmmm... Now, how do I get better mileage? Easy, lighten up on the throttle and shift sooner, keep them revs down... Nawwwww.. I think I'll take 32 and be happy.. Damn, the bike is too much fun to ride Conservatively.. IMHO. Oh well.. Later, |
