Hi guys. I have an XB9R, and I was wondering if it is possible to convert to the new 12 engine. Has anyone done this? I was thinking about a Nallin engine upgrade, but I am worried about reliability. Thanks.

You can make your XB9 better than the XB12. With a 1200 big bore kit and a few other changes, your XB will send you to your Chiropractor after it snaps your neck back from a twist of the throttle.

Do you have any experience with a 1200 big bore kit? How reliable is it?

To keep reliability, I thought I could upgrade with H-D/Buell parts like the crank, rods, pistons, and throttle body to make a 12.

You could do all that, but like I was told; it would be cheaper and reliable to buy an XB12 motor and have it installed. Sell the XB9 motor for $$$.

Nallin does good work, Dresden. There's at least one guy on this board that has done a 1200 conversion on an XB (Shazam), and lots of people have Nallinized their tubers/Blasts. You'd probably be hard-pressed to find people who are unhappy with their work.

I believe for the complete 1200 big bore setup it will cost you around 3-5K. I'm not sure what a new XB12R engine would cost. Anyone know? I guess if you sold your XB9 engine to someone, and bought the 12 engine you could offset the cost. Hmmmm? Not a bad Idea!

I rode Shazam's XB after he got the Big bore kit, and was thoroughly impressed.

If you bought the 12 engine what else would you need??? Throttle body, airbox, exhaust header, muffler because nobody really know's yet what a pipe is going to do for us.And then you'll need the fuse box and wire harness and the stepper motor that opens the valve on the muffler. You can buy the 12 engine but you might need all these things as well to make it perform the way the factories does.Just my 2 cents worth

I believe the 12 motor was a little over $5k. That included the new intake. I didn't include the cost of the stock pipe, stepper motor because you don't need them. But if you wanted them you'd still have to buy them regardless which way you decided to go.

I am new to the bulletin board, but this seemed like the best place to ask this. I had originally wanted a 1200 when I bought my Lightning in January (of which I was told they weren't going to make it with a 1200) and have wondered about the possibility of converting to 1200 also. Is it possible to do an 883 to 1200 conversion on the XB9 motor? Isn't it just a bored out 883 to 984? It seems like you could do the conversion fairly easily by getting the 1200 cylinders, new pistons and gaskets and reusing everything else. The cost could be as low as $600. You would then only need to have the computer reset.

Contact the sponsor right below, Nallin Racing. You have to bore the cases, so it looks like it ends up costing more than a few thousand.

I would think some bolt on's or their 1050 kit is more reasonable, but I have 3 kids to feed and still have the stock exhaust.

Seitz,
The bore of the XB9 and XB12 is the same 3.5 inchs whom ever told you that it is a bored out 883 is mistaken. The big diff between the 9 an 12 in the motor is the Crank an pistons. The 9's stroke is 3.1 and the 12 is 3.8
