This question is for Daves mostly as a comment he recently made got me thinking...

I have read quite a lot recently about engine break-in procedures and have a little experience doing it myself. Anyway, Daves mentioned that the first 120 miles on his sled were on a track. In retrospect do you feel that was a good idea Dave? I have heard stories from both sides (and people sitting on) the fence and it seems to me that as long as everything is lubricated WELL it makes more sense to break-in an engine in a way that should stress the engine like it would be in a race condition. This "should" produce a seal that will work well in a race situation. Problem being that most of us don't put our bikes in race situations very frequently so you wear it one way during break-in and then wear it a bit differently for most of the bikes life. It seems to me that this may be akin to changing the angle of a handsaw while cutting something to get maximum bite. On the other hand again, if you bore an engine for a race situation you want to use a stress plate that will torque the engine block itself in the same fashion it will be stressed during WOT operation so the bores are straight at WOT instead of at idle. This would seem to indicate that you should break an engine in however you will ride it.

Personally, I feel the first 100/200 miles (3-5 hours I think would be a better way to say it) should be taken somewhat easily, then take it to a track.

I am quite sure this has been discussed before, but I am basically asking anyone who has broken an engine in on a track if they think there is a benefit.
