First of all I went from Dirt and some nasty accidents to not riding at all. I had a lot of heat from my father and brothers about not riding (harleys)and I have always wanted a Buell. I was just a little scared of the SoCal drivers and have been putting it off. I have a good woman who gave me that final push to what she called a bad @$$ bike and got the XB12Scg. She sold her car (Hond@) and now drives my truck. So i am blessed with driving my 1 month old bike daily and I love it. The sound is sick and I get a ton of compliments from cars and other bikers. Mostly the Duc's and BMW's. For some reason the JAP bikers give me the 1-2 glance making sure they saw what they think they saw, then they just drive on.

I have no problem with the pull in any gear. It makes me slide back the other inch to the step in the seat. I do keep hearing that they are wheelie monsters but have yet to experience it in any other gear then 1st and 2nd and even then i have to wind it out or snap the clutch. From my dirt experience wheelies are easy in any gear but it would be nice for this bike to pull the front tire off the ground in all 5 gears. Other then my wheelie crying it does pop or choke for a second when down shifting and letting out on the clutch and when taking off from a stop.

Sorry bro it aint a dirt bike. If you want the front end to come up on an xb in any gear other than first you will need the clutch and a good tug on the bars. I usually pull it up in second and I use a bunch of revs/clutch so I can get to the balance point quick and still have a few rpms left to play with. Pulling it up in third is murder on the clutch unless you stand on the passenger pegs and time it just rite. Ive got an 05 450x and wheelies are a breeze on it, I never use the clutch and shifting through the gears with the front tire in the air is simple but the xb is a whole different animal. If you want 3rd gear power wheelies you should have gotten a gixxer 1000 or the like.

Change the primary gearing (inside the primary case) to the XB9 gearing. That'll wake it up a bit.

It still won't be a dirt bike though... those things are typically geared to have a top speed of 60-90mph. That'd make for a fun XB... for about 10k miles between engine rebuilds... : )

I was too a little bummed when I went from a YFZ450 to a Buell. The YFZ would pull clutchless wheelies in any gear. But my Buell will only do it in 1st. It will do it in 2nd only after all of my mods and a good tug on the bars.

coming from dirt bikes, you will not experience ease of wheelies in any road bike. They are heavier and much lower to the ground.

the only ones that come close are gsxr1000's and maybe the KTM superduke(but that's damn near a dirt bike)

It is a bit disheartening when a guy on a liter bike pulls one up at 80mph... about 45mph is the maximum speed I can clutch one up on my tuber.

Still... that's pretty amazing for what it is.

I too have an Scg, and I have spent miles on a rented Uly and SS. The SCG is definitely the least "wheelie-prone" of the 3, owing to the lower center of gravity. The Uly definitely liked to wheelie in comparison.

All I know is my 08 XB12R wants to come up like nothing else I've ever ridden. That front wheel wants to come up! So, of course I have to oblige from time to time.

I usually know I'm riding a bit too hard to be commuting to work when the front comes up shifting to second on my 9R.

The SCG suspension does reduce the tendency to wheelie.

My bike, before the SCG suspension was hard to keep down in first gear.

'08s may have lower rotating mass. The front comes up Ok but it drops a lot when you change up. More than the earlier models. The XB9 pulley would probably be helpful.
