Petroleum products can be very toxic to certain plastics. This has been a long time complaint with the cityx translucent plastics. There is an active thread talking about it. |

Yep done it to my original clear windscreen on the XB9R. "Stuffed Instantaneous" is the only way to describe it. The lexan windscreen goes smokey straight away and then craze cracks anywhere it is stressed. Only fix is a new one. |

So is that by any chance covered under warranty? I haven't done it to mine, but I do have cracks around the screws at the back of the air box cover from the tech giving to much torque. They don't really bother me too much because they are covered by the seat, but sucks because its a brand new bike. |

Jeff, yes it is covered. Same thing happened on my wifes CityX. Might as well get it replaced as crack only get bigger eventually. |

Ethanol... I don't know, cheveron 91 octane in Tucson, AZ.... Who really pays attention to that. Does anyone. Is there something I should be looking out for with the ethenol stuff.... I always use the premium. Cheveron, if I'm not near a Cheveron, then Mobile or shell, then texaco. |

I think the ethanol thing is more of a state to state thing. I know in Mass almost every gas station had to put mandatory stickers on the pump to inform people it contains 10% ethanol. I think Connecticut has 15%. Owners manual says max of 10% I think. Not sure if the ethanol is better or worse on the plastics |

Gasoline (long chain hydrocarbons) is what dissolves the plastisizers and makes the plastic brittle. That causes cracks and a dull finish. It can't be fixed and the cracks will usually get worse. The solid colored plastics are a little more forgiving. I'm always VERY careful and always have a paper towel in hand to catch the splatter or drops. |

Hey Quasi- your post makes me wonder: see, I've been noticing that my helmet shield is getting those craze cracks, the many parallel kind you can see if you hold it just right. Never got fuel on it, any chance it's Rain-X? -Nadz |
