I've never really had anyone insult either of my bikes. I've had harley guys rib me about it but they actually like or respect Buells to some degree. And I've had ricers compliment the XB9S, especially on the looks and the famous buell handling. I also get "I bet it's a wheelie machine." a lot. The worst I've gotten is "But I hear they're really slow." To which I always reply "It's quick, not fast. It starts running out of steam around 130 but it gets there real quick. It was built for twisties"

Also how do you keep the miles that low??
It boggles my mind. I mean I've put over 3K on my XB9S since Feb and I haven't been riding it much. I stopped taking aimless rides when premium went over $4.
Even when I was in college and kept my S2 stored at home, 2hrs away, I was able to put over 1K/yr on it just joy riding when I came home for visits.

I'd ask him if if the odometer was broken or if it's rolled over and that's really 100,800miles. If neither then say; "Man that bike must suck. You should really get something you enjoy riding."

Turn it around on him and tell him "BMW and Duc's are great bikes. I don't care what people ride, just as long as they ride."

Let him talk all he wants -- don't give him the power to control your feelings.

I couldn't of said it better.

There's an obvious lack of security by both parties. Both want to get the goat of the other. Why not show appreciation for the good things that the other bikes have?

If you start the ball rolling, he might be able to talk more as a fellow motorcyclist and not an antagonist.

I've been riding a BMW about 500 miles a week for the last month and haven't met these mouthy folks yet.

If I do I'll ignore them and just keep on riding . . . I am finding some fabulous roads.

Tell him that if he bought a Buell he would have a reason to ride more.

And that freezerburn is the best one yet...
I just know that people that like Euro bikes will never love American bikes, and vice versa. You just can't convince me that BMW's plastic is any better then Buell's.

Heh, just tell him, "Just get over it. "When he asks, "Get over what?" answer, "World War II." If that doesn't get him to laugh just move on.

My Buell protects me from zee Germans!

Screw 'em. Ask him when he wants to ride sometime (given the mileage on his bikes, I'd guess you're pretty safe). If he stammers, makes excuses, or whatever, give him a "huh" glance, turn, and walk away without actually saying "poseur a$$hole". He'll get the idea. If he keeps after you, start telling him about all the great rides you've been on, or the great one you had the past weekend, or whatever, and then ask him when the last time was he rode, or where he likes to ride. Make it obvious to him that you've figured out he doesn't ride his bikes. Make it about him, not his bikes. Do it in front of a group of people if possible - guys like him need an audience for approval, and if they see him getting shut down he'll meekly go away...or he'll start riding. Either way, I'd consider it a win.

Well I'm in no mood to stroke anyone's ego. I do tell him I like the Buell, just like I like my Harley. I have the best of both worlds...sport bike and cruiser.

Tell him he's a bigger poseur than any Harley rider.

He has an adventure bike on which he never takes an adventure.

He has a race bike which he never races.

He has a "world adventurer" costume and a "rickey racer" costume. They are no different than chaps and a dew rag. Something he wears for acceptance in his peer group.

Tell him the truth. He's a POSEUR. A fake and a fraud. No different than the HD riders he despises.

Who gives a crap about what other people think about your choice of ride....

But I would ask him if his bikes are so far superior, why doesn't he actually ride them?

Well, you COULD rattle him by telling him that he NEEDS both of those bikes because one of them will usually be in the shop. But, I like Beemers and Ducatis, so I usually deal with that type by looking at the mileage on the speedo and asking if it has been replaced. No? Then where is the bike you actually ride?
