Disturbing in the fact that it will (weather or not intentionally) perpetuate the stereo types white southerners have to live with.
Entertaining?

I cannot alter reality, Glitch.

And, yes, it is a gripping drama which digs deep into the psyche of a tortured soul. As such, it is quite entertaining.

God vs. Man in the heart of America's Bible Belt...

All that is doing is advertising sick loser trash that has no place on this earth.People like this should not be shown as it only spreads hate.I mean to sell this is basically what they want whether you agree with it or not.Its like when the loser's in white sheets that have to hide their faces march and they show it on the news they should get no airtime.

I'm sick of "reality" shows.
Stereo types are entertaining are they.
Sheesh
You'd think someone with such editing and filming skill could find better subject matter.
I cannot alter reality
Poor excuse for that shit.

So, you guys have determined that the movie is trash based solely on a trailer?

Perhaps if you saw it you could make an informed decision. Just a thought.

I've test screened the piece for various and diverse audiences, and I have NEVER heard any such vitriol -- even from its harshest critics.

"MetroPulse" -- Knoxville's alt weekly -- sent an editor to ATL to preview the film, and this was his take:

Eye On The Scene

Rebel Scum Nears Completion, Set for Submission to Festivals
by John Sewell

It's been at least a couple of years since the folks at Atlanta's Worldstorm Productions began filming Rebel Scum, a rockumentary that chronicles the life of one Christopher Scum and his musical partners in crime, the Dirty Works. But despite rumors to the contrary, production of the film is within weeks of completion and will soon be submitted to several major film festivals.

When I viewed the film at Worldstorm Arts Lab, producer Francis Percarpio and director Video Rahim continually pointed out unfinished details. But to my untrained eyes, the film is complete; and it's astoundingly well-executed, thank you. On par with the work of Ondi Timoner (Dig!) and Julien Temple (The Filth and The Fury, Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten), Rebel Scum is more than just a rock'n'roll movie. The multitextured film explores several themes including mental illness, addiction, relationships, family dysfunction, and the struggle for artistic expression. And, of course, all of this is repeatedly punctuated by scenes of Scum & Co. in all their wasted glory, striving to make it in the rock'n'roll underground while facing the obstacles of legality, power struggles, and an oftentimes disinterested public.

Several of Knoxville's underground celebrities make appearances in the film including the legendary demon/poet/provocateur, Rus Harper, the always entertaining and enigmatic Carl Snow, and the late Vadim, of dark metal fame. Other southeastern bands make appearances such as Atlanta's Dropsonic, Asheville's Monsters of Japan, and you can even spot members of The Disobedients if you keep your eyes peeled. Knoxville clubs The Pilot Light and The Corner Lounge provide the setting for several scenes.

Simply put, Rebel Scum is a masterpiece, a miracle. No matter what you think of Christopher Scum or his band, you will find this film absolutely compelling. The basic story of the film is one man's continued drive to create art in spite of barriers imposed by society and by his own self-destructive tendencies. Rebel Scum bounces intermittently between the extremes of comedy and tragedy, revealing a seedy underworld of Knoxville that few people know exists or would want to know about. At its core, the film presents an honest depiction that is neither exploitative nor a PR hackjob. And anybody with a beating heart will end up loving Christopher Scum, despite his myriad flaws. Trust me; the disturbing and painfully real Rebel Scum is destined to become a classic of the documentary genre. This is gonna be huge.

So, you guys have determined that the movie is trash based solely on a trailer?
Isn't a trailer supposed to give you a taste of the film?
It gave me a bad taste.
My opinion is based on the trailer you posted, I posted my opinion of the trailer.
It's all I have to go by, and since it is all I have to go by, based on the trailer there is no way I'd spend any money to go see it.
You can post as many critics loving the flick as you want, it'll not make me want to see such a flick.
Hell, you could post even the harshest critics loving it, and I still wouldn't want to see it.
Either someone needs to make a new trailer, to get a better taste, rather than a bitter taste.
You're probably not after my demographic anyhow. These sort of "reality" shows are simply stupid IMHO.
You said in your original post it would be disturbing, you were right. It was so much disturbing that it made me not want to see it.
All of this is simply my opinion. We have proved that opinion is as diverse as those that have them, and everyone has an opinion.
Good luck with it, regardless of how I feel about the subject matter.
Showing people shooting up, banging their head til it bleeds, waving the rebel flag, showing just how stupid they are is entertainment not.

Actually, we're going directly to distributors and studios. Festivals are an expensive waste of time -- most of them show the same stuff -- and if your piece isn't politically correct, anti-Bush, "sensitive", or gay enough, you may as well not waste your time.

John Waters and James Cameron have both been persuaded to give it a look-see. Still awaiting feedback...

It does look interesting and it's something that I would watch. let me know if you end up getting it onto DVD.

Unfortunately some do not want to accept what is actually going on in this country and how others, whether or not they agree, live their lives. Not all of America lives the cookie cutter family life.

I figure the more I know and understand about how people like Christopher Scum live their lives, the more information I have so that I can raise my son to lead a somewhat normal life. It won't be that normal with me as a dad : ) I guess that's why I watch the A&E show Intervention.

Glitch, If you haven't watched Intervention you really should. It is a reality show but shows "real" people in "real" situations. People that could be you neighbor, your kid's teacher or even a member of your own family. Powerful stuff.

Wow, I'd love to see the whole thing. Keep us updated as to when it's out in form or another.

Glitch, I think you're taking it way too personal. The vibe I got wasn't an attack on the south, this just happens to be where this guy is from. The focus of the film would carry the same weight for me if this took place in NYC, LA, Seattle or Toronto. It may not be your cup of tea, and I can see why it wouldn't. But to take it as an attack on the south or southerners is off base IMHO.

LOL...I would watch it...reminds me of last weekend. Wait, the weekend before that...wait maybe it was the weekend before that...wait...
Yeah, I'd watch it. I've always enjoyed short films..etc. From odd, sick, sad, happy, slow, its the work that goes into them and the cinematography that catches my attention. A good story line does help of course. As far as Christopher Scum goes, its sad to say, but I've known many guys like him. I've seen a lot of wacky things in my life so call me warped but I find a lot of humor in people like him and the sometimes stupid stuff they do.
As far as the opinions go above, I wouldn't sweat it, like a**holes, everybody's got one.

As real as this could be, it is sad to see that the people acting this life glorify it by portraying it as "cool", and bad ass. No excuse in my eyes. There are people all over the world leaving in complete poverty that still hold on to their pride and to common human ethics. Look at some of the people in Africa, no food, no water, fighting ravaging illnesses and still behaving like descent human being. Young punk kids are watching stuff like that and adopt those principles, and after that don't complain when that kid in the street gives no respect to human kinds.......Cancer is spreading and you are helping it.

The movie is probably pretty mild compared to if you were to have followed Sid Vicious and the Sex Pistols around back in the day, or early 80s Motley Crue, the Stones, Marlyn Manson, Guns and Roses, etc, etc, etc.......hell man its rock and roll.

At first I thought it was a parody. Then I realized that it wasn't...all I know is that the guy needs help, serious help, he is on a very self destructive path and without some psychiatric help he will be dead soon.

Twinv,

And exactly HOW do you know they are behaving like descent human beings? I am sure there are some ruthless and degenerate starving Africans as well.

Your comparison just struck me as a bit odd.

Oh, and all those drug addicted, perverted, obnoxious rock stars were MY heroes growwin up and I turned out just fine.....at least thats what I tell myself every morning when I'm lookin in the mirror as I brush my teeth..hehehe

Slinger,

"And exactly HOW do you know they are behaving like descent human beings? I am sure there are some ruthless and degenerate starving Africans as well."
I know because I was born there and lived there 18 years. The ruthless and degenerate Africans are the ones that are trying to be like the bad ass punks on that clip.
And don't go and confuse the rock bands of the 80s with that non sensical behavior on that clip.....yes these guys were high, yes they were stoned, but you could hang out with them....now who wants to hang out with that dude on the clip?...heck he'll probably scare gene simmons to death ...; )
By they way, I am white caucasian just in case someone wondered.....

Added quote from Slinger to ensure "African" comments are taken in proper context.

Guzzimon,

Common dude, that's nothing to do with being open. That clip brings nothing: No art, no information, just decay....maybe true decay but why glamorizing it, why make it look like its cool, this is no Bart Simpson cartoon, this is a real guy and his buddies acting like degenerates, and one day these guys are going to reproduce (with some unlucky women) and I don't even want to see what that next generation is going to look like if they have those parents as example.....where is this world going to....sad so sad.

TwinV --

There's a LOT going on there. Watch the movie when it comes out.

Please remember, the "trailer" is simply an attract loop -- designed to make the viewer want to see more.

I came across these guys while on a PAYING GIG doing an EPK (electronic press kit) for a signed band. I was both fascinated and repulsed -- but I knew there was a story worth relating there.

"Rebel Scum" is THAT story...

BTW, the movie portrays said behavior as ANYTHING BUT glamorous!

Pull your head out of the Old Testament -- breathe some oxygen -- and THINK about what you're saying -- rather than reacting to that which you do not understand.

I am not Satan -- nor am I his charge...

I dont think TwinV was calling you satan I think he is just saying you are helping scum like this by advertising them on video.I am SOOOO far from a bible thumper and I listen to metal but this music not only sounds like crap but the Christopher Scum loser looks like a meatloaf reject.he cant get over getting beat as a kid well I got the living shit beat out of me as a kid and im no Christopher Scum I have a good job and can actually contribute to society. If you got your ass beat as a kid you probably deserved it thats the way it goes.Hopefully we wont have to hear from this scum to much longer with the way hes living his life he wont be around very long.

Guzzimon,

I am far, very far, extremely far from the Old Testament, but that's another thread. I wish I did not understand, because then I would observe and listen. But as you said the trailer is to provide a window into the movie, and what is portrayed in there provides no attraction to me, and I'll bet you it will provide no attraction to a majority of people (besides people like the ones portrayed in the trailer) . If you were trying to portray anything else besides repulsion and scum behavior, then I am afraid you missed your opportunity with this trailer. You could be very talented, but why try to compete with the discovery channel when they are showing in HD animal behavior in Africa ; ) Just like any actors, the movie/characters you pick to act in will define who you are. There is no creativity anymore in the film industry, remakes, remakes and sad reality shows....anyone can do that. I am sure you can do better
Good luck to you
