I posted a message in the Knowledge Vault, under Drivetrain (primary/clutch) regarding an issue I have been having with my primary. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you talking about the starter ring gear on the clutch basket?

I was referring to the sprocket for the primary chain that is on the clutch basket.
It has a little lateral play when at a certain spot(s) on the rotation of the sprocket.

Could the loose clutch sprocket be attributed to bearings going bad? I posted in the Knowledge vault, but only got one response. When I first picked up the bike from dealer and rode it home, the primary was whining and after I noticed that the primary chain was much too tight. I am wondering if that caused bearing damage, which has lead to the clutch basket sprocket being loose. Also, what are some symptoms of bearings going bad? Any insights?

Mine has a little wobble to it also. The whine was most likely the tight chain. I had a Lightning and sportster do this with a tight chain. Add the correct sag and it should go away. I noticed in my area that all the new Harley and Buells for some reason run everything tight both the chains and belts. Yes I know the belts on Buells aren't adjustable.
