Hey, Just scraped both pegs today for the first time. I thought I heard something like "if you scrape a peg on an XB then you are crashing." Well I didn't crash and mananged to scrap both of them more than once. I am getting faster but maybe it has more to do with my new tires. Any way, anyone else doing this (I am sure I am far from the first one) PS, here is a pic to prove it.  | ||

LOL...9S pegs are an inch lower than a 9Rs...I think that 'crashing' statement was referring to the Rs. That inch may not sound like a lot, but it means the bike has to be over a lot farther to contact. Speaking of pegs, a buddy of mine gave me a brand new pair of the Traction Rider Pegs - free! I wanted a set but was unwilling to spend the $75 on them...they are awesome, though. Bryan | ||

Nice come back, but NO, I did that fair and square on Highway 92 here in Colorado. Anyone that knows that road, knows that the turns are sharp and could produce a peg scraping experience. It is a 9S so the pegs are a little lower but not much. Thanks Bads1, you should bring that shiny new 12 out to colorado and see if we can't lighten it up on the peg side. Morgan PS, I promise | ||

If your scraping your pegs....move your but off the seat a lil...you've got the bike leaned over so much your riding on a very small contact patch on your tire. Can you say low side. Knock on some wood somewhere so this don't become a crash!!!! Not saying a thing about your riding style just trying to give a helpful hint. I got a buddy here and he was so pround to have finally got his knee to the ground9yes on the mountain roads, kinda stupid but what ya gonna do) anyway he said it was so easy and bla blah blah....anyways 3 days ago he got it to the ground again and then the tire slid then caught he saves the high side then goes off road hits a ditch. Game over. He's ok bike is beat pretty good. He said his problem was he started concentraing on getting the knee to the ground and not riding. So ol proverb says....oooops I did it again | ||

I'm a woosey... I have not scraped my pegs on my "S".... I do have an 1/8" chicken strip on my stock rear though.... On a side note it's still a little hairy to ride around here (Virginia Beach) trash, trees and obsticals everywere.... did I mention pine needles are like ice!....    The picture don't do the level of mess justice.... | ||

Buckinfubba, I totally agree with you. I was just suprised to have dragged them. I know it sounds like I was bragging but I was just trying to prove that I really did it. Anyway, I got caught up in trying to get my knee down on mountain roads around here and had a little scare. I didn't fall but definitely almost pulled the seat off of the bike without my hands. I pulled over to relax and realized that I should just be riding and having fun and save that kind of crap for the track (which I still haven't been on). Anyway, Brian (I think that is your name) I couldn't agree more, sorry about your buddy's bike. Will do, I am just short boots and really good gloves. I am riding with motor cross gloves and my ice climbing boots now. They won't let me out there with that will they? They shouldn't, especially those gloves, I just need to pony up. Later, Morgan | ||

I ground mine down flat on my 9s at battletrax 3 in Waterloo for the first time but on public roads I usually dont push it that far. | ||

I want to have fun riding the streets and not scare myself to death. Controllable power coming out of a turn . . . etc . . . without fear of twisting the wrist too far . . . I've tried out the XB9R and it is alot of fun . . . haven't had a chance to try a ZX7R because Kwak dealers don't offer test rides. | ||

Orangeokie, I absolutely love all motorcycles, jap/american/italian/british/whatever, but I am head over heels about my buell. If you look at the pic I posted above, you will see a Yamaha WR250F in the background. If you ask me, there is no bike more FUN than a Buell. It is fun on the street, fun on the track (I don't have personal experience yet but I can only imagine), fun in a parking lot. The "problem" with Jap bikes these days is that they are all (that is the performance models) race bikes. That is really great but it doesn't make them much fun to tool around town on, and they don't inspire nearly as much confidence as my 9S. Someday I want an R1 or GSXR1000 for track use but the Buell will always be my GRIN Machine. Good luck test riding, you are better off just asking a friend or someone on the street than one of those dealers. That is a little long winded, sorry. That is my question too. Actually some (very few that I have encountered) do offer a test ride but you basically have to sign all of the paper work to buy it before they let you on it. It is very inconvenient and ridiculous if you ask me. I guess people just take the magazine's word for it. Oh well. Morgan PS, my local jap bike dealer lets me test bikes but only because I know them very well and I have purchased 2 dirt bikes from them. Oh, and I only get to do it on this stupid little back street. |
