I am starting to knock around the idea of a new xb12r. I currently have an 07 GSXR750. I really like the bike but that thing is HARD to keep it at the speed limit, it just want's to go. And when you do twist the trottle you breaking the speed limit before you hit secound gear. I mainly ride back and forth to work but I am doing my first track day at the end of the month and hopefully can do alot more. I have looked at and rode the 1125r but I can't swing the money. My question is what are some real performance numbers for the 08 xb12r? I know they made a few changes for 08. Also how is the xb two up? My wife likes to ride once in a while and we are both fairly tall people.

I have an 08 XB12S. It's the same powerplant as the 12R. I recently rode the 1125, and it knocked the S into the dirt. The R does ride 2 up, the rear seat is under the cowling. The XB handles very well, it's just not anywhere near as fast as the 1125.

Look at the XB12Ss the lightning long. I like the look of the r but bought a XB9SX because I didn't like the sportbike reach. The "S" bikes are way more comfortable.

White - If you're considering an XB12 to keep you within the speed limit. It won't help.

2 up on an xb9sx is a tight fit! Standard seat on it doesnt help for 2 up either. as far as power it has plenty of it without having to wind it up. xb12 long may be an excellent choice for the sportiness but if you think yer gonna do alot of 2 up I'd suggest the ULY and keep the GSXR for track day and racing around!

I think if the miss is "comfy" on the gsxr she will do just fine on the xbr. For the power well lot more torque but coming myself from a gsxr750 I can tell you, you will need to relearn to ride since you can't rev it up like a in-line4, once you will learn this everything will be fine on the Buell, the other thing is even if the torque will kill your gsxr well the top end will be far less impressive.

I decide to drop the in-line 4 sport bikes because I was tired to rev those thing up to get some power and to get what I call usable power so if it's about what your looking for the xbr will be perfect, if you want the same power then you will cry.

In a drag race from a 1st gear rolling start an xb12r is about the same as a honda 600 f4i, I think my buddies who I mess around with is like an 04 or something, both of our bikes are stock accept for exhaust. He does start to pull away after 120mph. How many miles on the gixxer? Want to kick around the possibility of a trade?

Wife loved riding with me on the old 04 12R. She had a BF long ago that had some Japanese iteration of a sportbike, she doesn't remember what it was. She did say she like riding with me more. Who knows what that means? Could be he was irresponsible while 2 up? Could be that the V-twin..... nevermind. I didn't ask.
Going from a Gixxer, you're going to miss some things but you will find new jollies with the Buell.
Going to the 12R you are going to have to give more input to the bike. It is a more "interactive" ride. All of this is part of the BMC philosophy, "Built from the rider down" almost forcing the rider and the bike to have a "working" relationship.
The 08 has alot of refinements, the dreaded TPS re-set is no more, reliability up. But you will still do more maintenance on it than the Gixxer.
The Buell is also a better conversation piece. Be prepaired to give the BMC schpele and an explanation of the bike at every re-fuel and stop. Everyone wants to know WTF it is.

You're saying a 12R involves more maintenace than a gsxr750??? Please explain that one..ya lost me !

My 12R is a new addition to the family here. I have not ridden in over 12 yrs and it is very easy to ride. Handles great and corners like nothing on the road. The bike actually wants to go faster in the middle of the corner, it is kind of creapy. I have 2 friends with liter bikes that love to ride it. Simply because of the torque and ease of power.

You will definitely need to "learn" how to ride the XB12R. You will need to figure out that the rev range is much more limited versus the inline 4's. For example, you will probably have to shift up while passing a car, wherein an inline 4 you can just over rev it. However, you will love the torque the 1203 Thunderstorm engine produces. It is everywhere even right off idle. Riding an XB12 Buell is a totally different experience than riding a typical Japanese sportbike. Once you master the Buell, you can go pretty damn fast in the twisties in it. Also, 120 mph will feel like 150. So it may help you not get to jail. However, it will NOT slow you down because if anything else, the XB12 bikes are sneaky fast because it's engine feels relaxed even at redline.

RWHP: 87-92 @ 6,750 RPM depending on Dyno
RWTorque: 98-72 @ 5,750 RPM
Quarter Mile 11.25 @ 117 mph
Topspeed: 135 mph

I may try and test ride one Sunday. I really like my gixxer but almost everytime I throw a leg over it I think of a Buell. I'm really a big Made in America person or atleast I try my best. Plus I love having something that you don't see alot of. I guess if I test ride one I will find out if it's for me. But I would hate to buy a Firebolt and end up taking it to a track day that is only two weeks away. If I end up with one it will be White and Blue. Even since I saw that color scheme it has been fried into my brain. I will let you guys know what happens. Thanks for the feed back please keep it coming.

Finish the track day with your GSXR750. Or, postpone it and do it on your Firebolt (if you get it) after you've learned how to ride that bike fast.

I have always owned Japanese bikes. STill do in fact. Before I got my Firebolt, I had a Suzuki Hayabusa and a VFR800. Talk about bikes that are way different from the Buell.

Like you, I always liked the idea of an American made sportbike. Plus, I fell in love with the all white 2002 XB9R Firebolt. However, I was skeptical if I would like the bike because of what I have read from magazines. Fortunately, I met a guy who had that exact all white 2002 Firebolt and he let me ride it. That was all it took. The vibration I thought so much about was a none-issue for me. I actually liked the V-twin beat of the Thunderstorm motor. The power deficit (compared to my Hayabusa) was a none-issue because the Firebolt had lots of torque, which made it feel as lively as my Busa. Just didn't have the top end rush, which got me into so much trouble anyway. Finally, the handling. The Firebolt was so much lighter than my Busa and flicked into turns so quickly. I was sold.

Now, after 2-years of owning my 06 XB12R, I am so glad I traded my Busa for it. I do NOT miss that bike one bit. I love the Firebolt's motor. I did the first time too. Some people hate it. You will find out if you love or hate it soon enough. Everytime I get off my Firebolt and walk away from it, I still look back and admire it because I'm still in love. Everytime I ride the Firebolt, I want to keep riding it. It has that something that always calls me to ride it again, and again! I sure I hope you will feel the same way about your future Firebolt.

Here is mine with the Buell tailbag, Zero Gravity ST windshield, radar detector set up, etc.
