Bought an '08 XB12R on Saturday. Smells very rich when I fire it up, then it pops a few times and dies. Low fuel light is not on; I should have about a half tank left anyway. It died on me earlier today on the road, and now it won't idle. Going to have the dealer pick it up tomorrow since they are closed today. Did anyone else encounter this problem? Any ideas? Check your battery connections and also make sure the battery has good voltage the prep guys can be a little lazy and just junp or quick charge the battery. I can also say DO NOT start rev and shut off the bike to show people your bike cause the plugs will foul | ||

I don't think they worked the kinks out on the new "IAC",Intake air control for the Idle.. A little gunk and these can cause havoc.. If I was rocking an 08 the first thing would be getting a Catch Can to get those crap spewing hoses out of your intake... | ||

Sounds like low battery or fouled plugs. Check the battery and check the manual for how to clean the plugs. Keep off the revs at start up and all should be fine. | ||

I noticed popping on decel also. But that was during lunch time and it was fully warmed up; must have been 100 degrees today here in Sacramento. I've been following the break-in procedure to a T. I can't see how I did anything to cause this. The bike has 50 miles on it. | ||

May not be what you did salesmen will fire up a bike and rev the shyt out it to show it off sounds more and more like fouled plugs or maybe the gap isn't right but take off the seat and check the connections anyway takes 2 seconds | ||

Make sure you kill switch is shut off as well as the key. Twist the throttle all the way open and hold, flip the kill switch on and then the key. Hold it for about 8 seconds and then try it. This fires your plugs for about 2 seconds, and if they're gunked up it should clean them somewhat. Another thing to check is this, when this happened to mine, I assumed it was running on one cylinder. I proved this by dripping water on the header pipes after the bike was running. The cylinder that isn't firing is just acting as an air pump and will not hiss or sizzle.. | ||

The dealer just told me that it needs a TPS reset. I thought the '08s didn't need a TPS reset?? Build date on mine is October '07. | ||

Okay, TPS reset didn't work. But there are some updates for the ECM. One of the updates has to do with the Adaptive Fuel Value. The dealer guy said the AFV update smoothed out the idle, but that more road testing would be needed to make sure everything's kosher. | ||

For what it is worth guy check the connection under the intake cover. There is a pig tail with a connector on it that plugs into the Interactive Exhaust Valve control. I have had ALOT of connectors work they're way loose and the one mentioned caused very similar symptoms. Most of the electrical parts are made in china and don't have very good quality, fit, or finish. Good luck. | ||
