I took the long way home this afternoon and got caught in the rain. No bother. But I did make a quick stop at a covered gas station for a moment of dry'dom to take my cell phone out of my front pocket and put it someplace drier.

Stop the bike, turn off the key, and the fan goes into it's high cycle.

Lady fueling up her van next to me looks over, kinda serious, and asks....

"Is that a tornado siren???"

When I rode my new XB home last summer, it was looking stormy out and when I got to the slow part near my house, I could hear the fan at high speed for the first time. I thought it was the tornado siren myself!

Now I have all the retorts ready when asked. Such as, it's my turbo spooling down.

It's not a fan, tornado siren, or turbo "spooling down" please everyone, please don't be so ashamed you're making up stories about your After Cooler!

I let my friend take it down the road and back and when he came back and turned off the bike the fan came on. I started screaming "What did you do, why is my fuel pump screaming like that?!?!" He was so upset that he thought he did that he pulled out his cell phone and called the local HD store to order a new one. I told him I needed the muffler bearing mounted, pneumatic filtered hydro assisted unit.

The guy on the other end of the line was laughing so hard I heard him. When he heard it and saw me grinning he figured it out.

I thought the fan only came on when the signal fluid got to hot....

Ummm, I just look at people and reply to the, "what is it" with the simple answer, "a fan". I mean really...

Though now and again I do call it my leg warmer. That really confuses them.

I'm still sticking with the minority of fan haters. The fan still drives me crazy.

I pulled up to a Northern Tool Supply here in houston, parked right up by the door. Just as I got off the bike and was taking off my helmet, an older gentleman and younger guy were walking by. The old guy looked REALLY confused as he walked by and finally asked...is that (the bike) electric? I was thinking, $hit no dude that's a Harley motor. Me and the younger guy both laughed...

I got pulled over a few months ago for doing 41 in a 30 (I honestly didn't know the speed limit, sue me). When the officer walks up he says in his best jerk voice, "turn it off" while doing the corresponding hand motion. I looked at him for a second then reached over and pulled the key straight out without saying anything and continued to stare at him (fan still humming away). I thought it was kinda funny at the time but $230 later I was thinking maybe I shouldn't have given him the "you ignoramus" stare for so long.

But I get the "Did you leave your bike on?" a lot. I still like the fan because it is different and a conversation starter.
