Any ideas on what I could use to block the opening in the frame for an 06+ intake configuration? I'm not the best welder in the world(I can't actually). | ||

Can I assume you have swapped in an 06+ inner air box?. If so couldn't you just seal around the opening letting the bottom half of the inner air box block off the opening? | ||

I haven't done anything as of yet. I'm putting the puzzle together before I start spending money. Never thought about the airbox base as a blocker... | ||

It's not hurting anything. More air to back cyl since air would be inducted from airbox cover opening. I've read the fan would run less. Mine is on ALL the time. Mainly because I want to.  (Message edited by mr2shim on June 01, 2008) | ||

There should never be any welding there! That is an aluminum fuel tank with anti-corrosion lining material. No screws either. The hole shouldn't hurt anything but if you must plug it you could epoxy a plate over it or just fill it with expanding foam. | ||

I personally don't mind the fan. 1: you don't hear it when you are riding. 2: serves are a conversation piece 3: factory engineering. (probably there for a reason) | ||

I did this on my 05 and it didn't change a thing. The fan came on just as often with or without it blocked. I'm with Punkid, use the spray foam. It's not permanent and can be removed whenever. Plus light weight. I think it's paintable also. | ||

It's more less being converted to 06+ conversation piece. I'd like someone to ask me about the fan. More people are like WTF???! That thing sound-a-like-a-harley. Once you block off the top (06-later airbox base), it may get a little air in the frame hole, but most/more will go to rear cylinder. If the air can't flow through the hole anymore, it has to go somewhere, and you can guess where that would be... | ||

Be careful with spray foam as it is very flammable. As it's being applied - it's the propellant that's the flammable component. Once dry, or set, or whatever you want to call it, it's fairly inert. Open flame? Sure, that'll get it...but if you have open flame at your XBs frame, you have bigger issues to contend with... |
