Does anyone even know if Buell is planning a RACE ECM for the 2008 Models? Or are they just depleting their 2007 & lower model ECMs to be done with it? I really truly want to upgrade my exhaust on my 2008. It just seems sill that this is such a trial. My previous bike "triumph tiger" I just went to the dealer & the remapped it, bike was happy for 15K miles till it got wrecked when some kid hit me.

Just wondering whats going on at Buell, I ready to drop the stock can that is already covered in rust anyway!

Buell doesn't offer a race can any longer so what good is the race ecm? I don't believe it offers any advantage for a stock setup or another manufacturer's muffler.

Nope - it's a $10,000 fine for dealers to install and same with non-epa and non-DOT pipes. Things are tightening up.

Smog violation penalties are STEEP for dealers.

Even Powercommander lost more than $2.5 million in CA because some of their PC units were found to be being used on the street... yep.

So adding an aftermarket muffler will not make the bike run lean? That was always the case previous setups, why different now.

It doesn't matter anyway the race ecu does next too nothing, just like 90% percent of the other garbage available for these bikes.

The race ECM does not do much by itself; it is the combination of airbox, exhaust, and mapping that together make the difference.

Race ECM, perforated airbox, and D&D muffler boosted my XB9S's midrange by 20% proven by dyno testing.

Now that DirectLink and ECMSpy are available, a race ECM is no longer needed and as someone said above, is not ideal for a non-Buell race can anyway.

I have not seen anything on ECMspy for the 2008 Model Buell bikes with the new Fuel Injection & timing systems. For the price of a race ecm one could get a palm pilot on the cables. But has much been worked on for the 2008 Models?

I have a D&D pipe airbox mod all that. It may have given 20% in the midrange but it was taken from the nearly non existant top end. You don't get any extra out of these it just takes it from another area of the power band woohoo.

Yea, not a whole lot of info for the 2008 models in regards to ECMspy. It's just too new still. I've got a Jardine pipe, and can't do any mods through ECMspy without creating error codes.
I'd just like to get rid of the deceleration popping... : (

Ok. So what's the better/safer route to go with; on an 08 (Orginal Drummer/K&N)? Running an aftermarket pipe with a K&N (which I'm doing now) or just running with the aftermarket pipe? I've heard two things: (1) the ECM will adjust to the pipe/the ECM will not adjust to the pipe (2) the ECM will not adjust to the pipe and a K&N together/The ECM will adjust to both. Any thoughts? I'm bring the bike in this week for it's 1K service/tuning. Wondering if I should put the stock filter back in so they don't bring up some warranty BS issues. The bike runs great, no surging, flat spots, etc... my only complaint is the decel popping.

It has been explained to me that the 08 ECMs do not require any attention when doing mods such as an air filter or a muffler. TPS resets on the 08 ECMs have been eliminated (per H-D Tech Bulletin).

Give BuellGator (Paul) at Gainesville H-D/ Buell a call. He can probably tell you better than I.

According to my local ECMspy guru, ECMspy can be utilized to reduce decel popping with the 08s.
