Same as the tubers I'd imagine. For a 9 it was keep it under 3000 for the first 50 miles, then under 3500 for the next 450. 500 miles of torture is what that is.

Just don't go hammering on it, let it get good and warm before taking off, and you won't hurt anything. Break-in is the subject of nearly as much controversy as oil and tire types.

Just follow your owner's manual. The break in procedure is very clearly defined there.

And don't let it sit and just idle. Engine is VERY tight at first, and will build heat fast. Follow your manual.

Personally, I didn't look at 500 mile mark as a magical line that once I crossed I blasted to redline and rode like a maniac. Stretch it out gradually and build into the higher RPMs... anyone will tell you you're still breaking in over the first 1000 miles, it's just not as critical after the first 500 miles. So I stepped up the revs gradually over then next hundred miles so as not to shock the bike and to just be really sure. I'm with Bads1, it's HARD! Engine should be pretty settled and loosened up around 2500 miles. That's when I noticed that my fan wasn't coming on as quick or staying on as long. I know it wasn't the weather because the weather was actually getting HOTTER as summer wore on, but bike was getting cooler.

The manual states to keep it up 2500 rpm for the first 50 miles and under 3000 rpm until 500 miles. Of course, I am going very easy on mine but use 3500 rpm as the magic number, and try and go local roads as much as possible, otherwise I would be puttering down the partway at 50 which is just not feasible.

Try breaking in an M2 with no tach. I just took that one easy and the bike still actually runs.

Improper breaki in is just an excuse to call Nallin anyway!
