Any one have any issuse with false neutral, 2 times in two days, I seem to get stuck in a false neutral. It seems to appear between 3 & 2. Noticed it on down shift, had to reshift in order to get the bike in gear. I dont shift weakly, and havent had a problem like this before. Any body else have this problem?

I dont know if its common on the XB's or not, but on my X1 & my Dyna if you dont bang it into gear, yes it will happen.

I've noticed this happening to my '03 XB9S when the motor is hot and I'm "late" on downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. I too have wondered if something is wrong in the gearbox.

What kind of primary/tranny fluid are you using? I had the same results with Syn3 and Klotz 75/90 fluid. I'm going with Mobil-1 75/90 next and Amsoil 75/90 after that.

I have problems with 1-to-2 upshifts sometimes. If I'm not stern enough with the shifter, she'll stop half way. The gearbox has not been the happiest part of my XB9S-L. I'm jealous because the guys at the HD dealership and you folks online have talked about how much better the 12s box is at shifting.

Changing to synth Mobile-1 75w/90 in 500 miles. Does that help, anyone?

Check your primary chain.
It's supposed to have 1/2 to 3/8 inch play.
On XB9s anyway.

I have had a few false neutrals, but only when I make half hearted shifts. It never happens when I make a deliberate motion.

Ditto what KC said. As long as I lay the smack down on it it's fine, only when I baby the shift do I have a problem. Check the primary chain tension, and you may (more involved) want to make sure everything inside the primary is torqued down properly. Things start rattling loose in there and it all goes to hell.

I've never, ever had a problem with 3-2, only 1-2 shifts. And yes, the tranny is smoother with the Mobil 1 75W90 Synthetic in it (vs stock SportTrans fluid).

I had the same problem with my XB9R. Just had to give it a good hard snap and use full clutch. The XB12R I just bought shifts alot better. From what I can tell they just changed the shift lever on the 12's. Maybe you could buy that part and upgrade the 9's???
