My friendly Suzuki mechanic lets me change my internet bought tires at his shop. He suggested that I change the rear bearing because they were a bit tight. Good idea i thought as a broken bearing can ruin a good weekend. I dropped into Buell on the way home and dumped the wheel on him. He says it needs replacing.
I picked up the wheel yesterday, Final bill 14,770 yen which is about $130. He only charged $10 for the labor. He showed me the parts catalog and the Buell price list and there they are listed for $60 a piece. Thats a bit rich? Isnt it??

That is a bit steep...
Here they are about $25 each...
Next time just replace them with some NSK bearings, I would imagine they are cheaper in Japan...
If you want I can look up a part #

Edit:
I think these are the ones you want...
NSK part #s
front: 6005JDDUCNNS7S
rear: 6006JDDUCNNS7S

Most importantly you want a 6005 front and a 6006 rear (those numbers will be universal for most companies), I am not sure which seals Buell comes with, but I would suggest double contact seal
I was not able to identify any tolerances on the wheel bearings, but they are usually etched on the bearing...

That price should be for a pair. Maybe they overcharged you thinking that was the individual price.

In Japan?

I am not surprised. The local HD/Buell dealership down in yamaguchi wanted 150 just to change tires even if I brought the wheels and tires to them.. Needless to say. They didnt get 150 out of me.

Aren't ceramic bearings cheaper once you account for bearing life and wheel life (because you don't have to change bearings as often)?

M1combat,
Interesting point...
I am not sure, but aren't ceramic bearings
not as well suited for an application where
they are subjected to shock and impacts?
Due to the brittle nature of ceramic materials?

I would be curious to know

Sorry about the hijack, but does anyone know the universal part number for the steering head bearings on an XB?
