Mark:

Don't stop now you are on a roll........... I smell rev 2 rearing it's ugly little head.

Note to self: Make room for Wife/ GF (not the same) when fabricating up brackets.

Sure glad you went through this so I could learn. So if I mount mine like your's, how much will the royalites be???

Aw heck, I'll just mount mine the way I contemplated the other night, when I was bonding with my 25r.

Later

Minknyte - I do think that's similar, but all it is is a luggage rack to tie other stuff down to.

Worst case scenario is I'm technically allowed to file a patent that improves on their design and keep the rights to it, so we'll see.

Ths good news is these guys seem to think there's a market for it, so it can't be that bad of an idea, lol.

I agree... hopefully I can write the abstract in a broad enough scope to include all of this under one patent. Again, I'll need to talk to an attorney to know for sure.

I think keeping the passenger seat is a good idea, just no one I have any use for so I didn't do it - but I have a couple of ways in my head how it could be done and still keep the top case and make this a very modular system.

Conti Tyre?

Get many miles/kilometres out of it touring?

That other one is designed exclusively for Japanese bike (quoting their site) and it is a carry tray, not a custom designed rack to allow motorcycles to run Givi stuff that don't normally have the option to run Givi stuff (or whatever kind of luggage).

If you could find a way to get you system to hook up to a stock seat you would be even better off, since then it isn't a replacement for the stock seat, it's a modular add-on to the stock seat.

Glad to hear you gave it the girlfriend test -- my fiancee approves!

Oh, and just my .02 cents, but that RiceRocketRack puts a metal plate edge-on to your spine -- I'll skip that piece of brilliant engineering.

That tire already has 2500 miles on it, much of it was was riding down to MBV and it really isn't that flattened out. I get a lot of miles out of tires as it is - the stock Pirelli's had 5200 when i took them off, but probably had another 1500 miles or more left in them.

I love the Conti though - it's never slipped on me and has taken lean angles until my toe was draggin the pavement. It's as good a tire as all the reviews say it is.

Ret - I agree, I think it's different enough, but who knows how their patent is written. It may include stuff about bags and what not. Just because they don't build and sell it doesn't mean they don't have a patent on it.

The problem with using the stock seat it they use a rather flimsy plastic seat pan. Not too sturdy. You coudln't get it to support all this weight without destroying the seat.

Yeah -- but what about the other two seats Buell offers? They might be sturdier than the stock. Anyways, I was thinking that you could use the seat as a clamping force for a mounting plate/bracket that would sit inside the trunk space -- as an alternative to modifying/customizing a seat...or then again you could follow the Special Ops model and modify stock seats to put in a rigid seat pan and then return the modified seat with the bag bracket.

but then again, what do I know?

Xl1200r: Very nice work. You have created what I was describing in these two posts:

I have ideas of how to integrate a passenger seat as well...

Mark, checking out your setup in person today, I must say it looks excellent. Very professional looking, not a typical Monster Garage Git-r-done hack job.

Seriously, take a look into making them as a side project.
