I found myself in a bit of a pickle .. I recently bought a M2 from a guy who was scared to use it. Had less than 1000 on the clock. Recently test rode a xb12stt. THought - brilliant design for how I ride! Good suspension, seems like a great commuter and occasional twisties bike. I added up the $$ to bring the M2 up to standard, but realize it will never be a XB.

A dealer recently made me an offer I might not be able to refuse on the xb.. My only dislike is how much "tech" stuff there is on the new bikes. I want something simple to work on as well. I don't mind doing the work, and honestly, given what I've seen of shop work, trust myself better.

Any thoughts? XB seemed a real performer, but tough to maintain cheaply and a bit "generic" if that makes sense.Keeping both not really an option unless I put one in the kitchen. (wife's not down with the kitchen option) I have a full garage..

thanks,

chuck
ps - what are the main differences between '07 and '08 bikes? How cheap is it to get say cityx plastic?

High Tech XB??? Nope. Difference between 07 and 08=07 TPS resets using a computer, home made cable and free DL(ECMspy) software, about 25 bucks. 08 TPS reset on the bike, about 0 bucks.

My XBs have been the most cost effective and simplest bikes I've ever worked on. Example, got rear ended in 2004 resulting in my 03 skidding on it's side about 200 feet. I picked it up and saw rash everywhere, thinking in my head about $1200 in damage. WRONG, it came to $194.13 to be exact. Now, ease of maintenance? SIMPLE, it's a Buell. I love working on my Buells, heck, I will find something to fix even if nothings wrong just so I can turn a wrench on these jewels.

With all that said, go with your heart. Tubers are AWESOME bikes, so are XBs, hell, they are Buells. So it's up to you. (FIGURE OUT A WAY TO TRICK THE WIFE AND KEEP BOTH, SHH, I DIDN'T SAY THAT). : ): )

Can you get rid of the stove and just use the grill outside? That should make enough room for a bike.

There is always room for one more bike!!! Something else can go or be moved...

But then again, I am biased and own 3 bikes including a Tuber and an XB.

If you're always riding at least one, then there's not really "one more" at home, is there? ; )

If you dump the stove take the XB for a FAST ride and you can grill on IT!

STT!!!! Its the best bike ever! (except the Uly)

Buell maintaince is nothing. Change oil/primary juice every 5k, then every 10k do fork oil, reset the TPS and change the spark plugs. All that can easily be done in your garage, except the fork oil which is a bit more tricky.

M2!

Do a racetech rebuild valving and spring on your suspension, a set of rearsets, and you'll be dialed!

Cam it and put a muffler on it, and you'll be showing stock xb's nothing but tailight on the straights, and stay with them real nice in the twisties.

ANd the simplicity of the carb!

Fix it yourself(highly unlikely to ever be necessary)

no TPS resets

umm, just pointing out you posted on the XB board -- we might be biased.

Well designed -- yeah, I'd call Buells brilliantly designed but never high-tech. I would say get the bike you like to ride -- since that is the whole point isn't it? If you love the bike you will learn to love working on it.

my .02 cents, though either way you have a Buell.

Keep both. Just throw a table cloth over which ever bike you're not riding and the wife will never know that's not a kitchen island in the middle of the room.

Just be sure to take the tablecloth OFF the bike when you ride it.

Had an M2 and an XB. Loved both bikes, and the M2 will always have a very special place in my memory (I mean that seriously).

The M2 will be a hobby (not necessarily a bad thing, it is very fixable and a good bike). The STT will be a daily rider and will run like a freaking energizer bunny... I'd do more work on my M2 between oil changes then I did on my XB9SX between 0 and 20k miles...

So do you want a hobby you can ride? Get the M2. Is your hobby riding? Get the STT.

Pretty much it, isn't it? Or as someone once said, what good is sex without a little foreplay? Riding without any maintenance?

you will have to do maintenance on either bike but what he is saying is you will have to do more maintenance on the m2 than you would the stt. neither of the bikes are really that hard to work on. They are after all both aircooled pushrod v-twins. The only difference is one uses an ecu and the other uses a carb (I realize there is more differences than that). All in all go with the bike that gives you the biggest smile.
