any guys running with latus exhaust? i havent really heard much about it. Kind of different b/c of the use of an edelbrock muffler as the base. Any opinion would be great.

I have the Latus muffler on my XB9S - It was painfully loud (set off car alarms) until I made baffles to quiet it down.

It is very well made.
Stainless steel

i have been running the latus on my bike for around 2 years now. sound wise it is pretty loud. i have to ride with ear plugs. it isn't as loud as the d&d pipe but very close. it has a deeper sound to it compared to the more high ended sound of the d&d. performance wise it doesn't really boost or cut in any one particular area. it is more even across the board.
all in all i really like it. but i am planning on getting the Drummer CF. just because it is drop dead sexy!.....

You can hear my bike with the baffles I added.
You'll get the idea.

The Latus is Harley loud and very well made. I ran it for about 5000k without changing the ecm or air filter and didn't experience any problems.

I ended up buying the same edelbrock muffler yesterday from their site for 25$ (closeout) and planning to modify it myself.

Old Man, you have time to make me one of those to replace my stocker? That sound was really nice!

Back on topic, seen an XB with a Latus -- Harley loud, looks nice, no complaints from the owner so seems a solid option.

I thought they quit making the Latus muffler awhile back.
Did they resume production?

No, I'm pretty sure they are still not making the pipe. I called them last summer, they said it was out of production, and out of stock. They were contemplating firing production back up, but were not sure at that time. Maybe we could all call them and hound them, because I want one!

So here's a bit more for you. I just got off the phone with Latus. Not only did they stop making the pipe, but about 2 months after they stopped the factory that was making them burned down.

http://store.edelbrock.com/rpmseriesmufflers.aspx
the number is 5504. i bought one on sunday. they shipped it out today. i have done some research and this is the same muffler latus was using. all i plan to do is buy some more 2.5" piping make the two outlets come out at and angle and make a 90 degree pipe come out the front. not sure if im going to keep it the colour it is or get it black with stainless tips. i am also going to fabricate the brackets as they are on stock, or cut the stock ones off the stock pipe as i will not be using it anymore.

It seems like a good plan.
If I were to do it, before I put the angled outlets on, I'd install some on/off baffles like the old "snuff or not"

If you're not familiar with them, they are like a large washer that pivots at the end of the pipe by a knurled knob outside attached to the washer inside the pipe.
Closed - extra baffle, turned 90 degrees an open pipe end.

If you do it, you will thank me.

The Latus pipe was painful without the baffles I added.

Old_Man; do you have pictures or any more info on the baffles that you added or did you just do as mentioned in your previous post.A homemade Latus sounds like something that would be easy to put together and give another performance option.

The baffles as described above would be a better option than what I did.

I inserted 2 aluminum L shaped pieces cut to fit in the ends of each pipe. Leaving a large enough opening to match the area of the headers.

If I had welding equipment I would have made up the adjustable baffles as described above, using a large washer to nearly span the inside of the pipe. Leaving enough open area to at least equal the area of one of the header pipes.

Lots more torque when closed.
My 9 pulls strong in 5th from 1800 rpm with the baffling.
Open it and find all the top end horses.

The best of both worlds.

P.S. - I thought that, if I had the equipment, I would attach the washer off center, then spring load it to allow the exhaust pressure to gradually open the baffle.
Maybe one of you could try this. (I think it would work well and be tunable depending on the strength of the spring tension.)

Even though my bike is baffled as much as I can it still is loud and sounds good to everyone who hears it. (and I no longer have to wear earplugs)

Judge for yourself:

Pulls those hills in high gear and I probably add over 270 lbs. with gear.

I have had the Latus pipe for just about 3 years now. I am running the race ecm and K&N filter. I don't notice much difference in performance between the Latus and the Buell race pipe I had on before (other than the sound).

I don't think the Latus is terribly loud, but I think it's the nicest sounding pipe available. It's very deep which keeps it from sounding high in volume.

so this 'baffle' is on the end of the pipes out of the muffler or before the muffler when the headers meet into one? and it is like a 'sucker' shape? just to block the flow of exhaust a little bit? and how much do i block off?

The baffle should be installed after the muffler at the exhaust exit.
On the Latus, for size, figure the cross section area of one of your header pipes and the cross section area of your exhaust exits.
The difference between these two areas should be the maximum cross sectional area of the baffles.
Doing it this way should quiet the pipe and not stifle the exhaust too much.

You know, the old [pi times the radius squared].

haha. im lost more than ever now.
ok..so if i put 2.5" pipes exiting the muffler, how big should my washer be? like 2" or 2.5" and on both exiting pipes?

Make it easy, If you use dual 2.5 inch exits from the muffler, a 2 inch washer, with the hole in the middle, in each exit should be OK.

It worked for me.

As I said, my bike, now, pulls strongly from 1800rpm in 5th.
Pulls hills, with added 275lbs, in high gear.

I used to have to wear earplugs because the pipe was painful.
Now I don't need them.

If you install the movable baffle, you could open it up for racing.
Although I never want for more power with my permanent baffles.

I wonder how one of these Cherry Bomb mufflers would sound. It's about the same size as the edelbrock used for the Latus with the same options in inlet/outlet diameters.
