I've been reading post on different types of exhausts for days now. If I had my druthers I would go with the Special Ops, but there's no way I'm going to have my bike down waiting for the unit for two wks this time of year. My next choice might be the Jardine. They haven't had any recent post on them lately so I'm wondering if they've fixed the problems they had with chin fairing brackets breaking and the hassle with the oil lines. I figure if I don't like it for some reason I'll still have the stock unit and can send it to Odie and have him do what he does. Oh, the unit will be going on a XB12. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

the chin fairing brackets are a pain in the butt. hard to get to the nuts that bolt the chin spoiler on. a possible solution would be to contact kd fab and see if kevin would sell you his brackets that he uses for the SS drummer. they are basically the same thing, but seem to line up better and the nuts are welded to the back of the brackets. much easier to work with.

The oil lines are another matter. the biggest problem is if you look at your rear muffler mount, the oil lines run thru it. the jardine doesn't use the stock bracket, so it's gotta go. you have 2 options here. first is remove the lines at the swing arm, which will of course cause you to lose your oil, so this really makes the most sense if you install the muffler when doing an oil change. the other option is to cut the bracket in half to get it around the lines. that's what we did, and i have since got another rear bracket on ebay for 10 bucks if i ever get a muffler that uses the stock rear bracket (like the drummer ss).

as far as the gp style, as far as i know it's the same muffler, with a tail pipe attached to it. the looks are a matter of opinion, but it does lose some functionality and versatility. with the std jardine mufflers you can install a quiet insert, which takes some of the edge of the sound and cuts the decel popping a lot. with the gp style, no quiet insert. hope this helps, cuz my fingers are tired.

I installed one on mine with the better steel brackets that now come with the pipe, and they seem to be very solid. The nuts are not a big deal to install if you are mechanically inclined. Takes a bit of fuss, but not too much.
As far as the oil lines, I did mine when I changed the oil, so it was not a big deal. Total install time was about an hour, certainly nothing to complain about.
Be warned though, this thing is freakin' LOUD!
You may want to consider the "quiet" insert.

I'm sending mine to Special OPS, since I won't be able to ride for a few weeks at the very least anyways. Can't wait to see how it sounds and rides with that and a Xopti tune : D It was a PITA to get those rear straps off, mainly cuz I don't have any stands for the bike. I considered the Jardine but since the Special OPS is cheaper, I decided on that instead. I heard a Jardine on an XB9R at the track earlier this week, it sounded pretty good. Didn't have the chin fairing on it at all though

I don't think the Jardine is that loud. I think my Latus was louder. Or maybe just seemed that way because the Latus just totaly seemed to resonate through my helmet. Even with ear plugs my ears were ringing after a 30 minute ride. My Jardine came with the new brackets. They seem to be holding up good. I removed the stickers from the muffler before installing it. Then used a Scotch Brite pad and some wd40 to make look like brushed aluminum. I didn't like it polished. The bike had nothing else polished so it looked kind of out of place to me being polished. I also took out the crappy factory packing and repacked it with stainless steelwool.

I'm going with a SpecOps, looking for a spare XB12 can now, but I have heard good things from the guys I know with Jardines. Personally, I am planning to send one pipe in and ride with the other, mount the SpecOps when it gets in from Odie, then sell or trade the extra pipe.

Hey, that gives me an idea...

I recently installed a CF Jardine and it went fairly well. I biggest complaint was lining up the chin fairing brackets with their mounting points, at least on the right side. The oil line situation was easy to take care of, just unbolt the two small ones on the sides(they are returns, no oil will come out), and then remove the big one in th middle and plug it with your finger while you slide the bracket off. I lost a tsp of oil at the most.

The pipe sounds really good and I hope it doesn't fall apart soon. I have about 300 miles on it and so far so good.

Oh... and the provided hardware for the front mounting location and the chin fairing wasn't long enough.
