Well i have mentioned previously that i was going to build a xb from the ground up well today i came home and my frame was sitting on my door step waiting on me so i took some pictures to show the start of my progress on this project. so first things first how do i get the residue off from the frame puck and 2 any advise on filling in, covering up those scraps on the left side of it? I do plan on painting it black. |

i use basically a metal epoxy like jb weld. jb weld actually makes some but i just used a different brand. it is a putty. you knead it and fill in the dents then sand it down and paint. i sand the frame down t rough it up for better adhesion. others use body filler, but i dont feel to confident in big globs of body filler staying in one piece as well on a vibrating xb |

Also try mineral spirits; I use WD-40 to remove the adhesive from the wheel weights, spray on and let soak overnight. Next day remove the glue with my finger nail. |

And before you spend any extra cash, you may want to double check and make sure the tank liner is still in tact on the inside of the frame at the point of impact. If you haven't already. Just my .02 |

I just got threw cleaning the bits of tape off of the left side were the frame puck was off so that you can see the damage better. Next week i will probly go and get some kind of filler to fix that side also I have a picture of my ignition that i also bought with this frame the only problem with it is it is missing the black part that tells you weather its on off or locked. I think I may try to buy another one and take the cover of of it but i wanted to keep this ignition for this bike so that i can get a spare keys with out any problems.

ok on a side note I do have some questions as for as compatibility of parts. I am planning on using a firebolt rear end with a lightning front. So I was wanting to know weather I should use a firebolt wiring harness or a lightning harness or is there a difference and is there a difference in the 9 and the 12's wiring harness? I am still not sure what engine I am going to go with yet I think that may come down to what i can find and or afford (right now I cant afford either just yet) |

use a lightning wiring harness if you are putting a lightning front on it. then the fuse blocks are in the tail. it will even work with a firebolt front if you decide. but the firebolt wiring harnes wont work well with a lightning front since the fuse blocks are in the front fairing on those. |

Definitely the lightning wire harness. What other options are you considering? |

well as far as body work im going to go with the traslucent red fairing and airbox cover with black for everything eles. im going to go with one of the adjustable swing arms (ie hals, innovative reserch, of the xbrr swing arm) with chain drive. i have not decided on what kind of suspension I am going to go with just yet. as far as the exhaust i am leaning towards odie's pipe. and the wheels will also be the red ones. im debating on weather or not to go with the ztl1 or ztl2 brakes. and i will probly go with the buell custom seat. Lastly I will go with the crossroads clip-ons and file down the lightning top triple clamp or I may just go with the crossroads handle bars that ar made for the lightning not sure yet. |

also the body work is going to have some air brush work on it only the fairing and the airbox cover is going to have it under it insted of on the out side. |

ok so I was looking a shock options and was wondering if any one has any experiance with those pro series springs that are on the buell web site? I dont expect them to be as good as the other choices out there but i cant see spending almost a $1000 For a rear shock. |

Have your existing shock rebuilt by someone that specializes in motorcycle suspensions, like Trackside Engineering. That would be a lot cheaper than buying a Penske or Ohlins (I've looked into it myself). You will still want to get the Pro-series springs though. |

Why not try traxxion dynamics? They are local to me here in GA. Can't be more than trackside. Just a thought. Smokescreen |

Donald, you can reach Randy at Trackside Suspension (Formerly Trackside Engineering) at 262-339-0615. He'll rebuild the stock rear shock, he can also do the forks of course. |
