I've seen engines go for 1200-1500 on ebay, usually $250 shipping on top of that.

You also need the wiring harness and ECM.

Not sure what else.

Making a 9 into a short stroke 12 similar to the XBRR? YES

Or swapping motors 9 to 12? YES

If you go with the 08 crank, you're looking at about $1600 just for parts. More than just the crank needs to be swapped out. Not sure what the charge would be for labor. It's not a cheap task. I looked into the past winter for the race bike and decided it's not worth the effort. Better off getting a 12 engine and putting 9 pistons in it.

The header needs to be swapped too. The 9 header is thinner than a 12. Band new, that's 200.00 without the install.

It is probably cheaper and easier to buy a new bike and sell the old.

But the fun factor of building a motor and experiencing the process is way cool. But expensive. If money is an issue don't start the project.

I just put my 04 12 motor in an 03 9 bike. swapped the motor, belt system( A MUST if you have the 03 belt ), throttle body, header and ecm. everything bolted up just fine.

No need to swap the harness.

Now if you want to swap cranks and pistons you could but the labor, gaskets and other parts will prolly cost more than a used 12 motor.

Nice, so if you get a 12 engine with the throttle body attached, it's just the exhaust and ECM. Time to start perusing Craigslist again.

FYI, the engine swap is not too bad, if you have tools. The manual is very detailed and it will get you there.

I probably spent 8 hours getting mine out, reading the manual very slowly, buying new tools, and working with various frozen parts. It went back in in just a few hours, after being familiar with all the parts and having all the tools.
