Just purchased a used 04' xb12r from a dealer a few weeks ago. The dealer claimed before I drove 2 hours that the bike had new tires, had been serviced, and was in pristine condition. Well when I showed up, this was not the case. The bike had been dropped on one side leaving a dent in the exhaust and cam cover. Not only was there damage but the rear tire was not new by any means. The dealer dropped the price a few hundred for the "misunderstanding." Since I am done venting I will tell you about my concern and that is them servicing the bike. I checked the oil and its BLACK. I am going to go ahead and change the oil, filter, and transmission fluid. Is there anything else I should pay close attention to? Check, change, anything that comes to mind? My rear brakes are squeaking just a bit, not sure if it is dirty or needs new pads. My inline buddy says this is the best part of buying a used bike. Being able to put your labor into it so you will appreciate it more. Any input would be great!

You need to get the service manual.

It is worth it.

Is there a cooling off period?

If yes then exercise your right to take it back and get a refund.

There are plenty more of this bike around and you will get a better one buying privately.

My reasoning for this?

If he lied to sell it to you what else is he lying about?

My 2 cents worth.

+1 Bombardier

Not sure why you even picked it up since he flat out lied to you. I would have told him where to stick it.
If you can't return it atleast get the new tire outta him since he told you it had one. The oil however sometimes looks black after running the bike after an oil change so he may not be lying about that but never hurts to change it anyway.
Give the bike a complete once over and check every mounting surface.

It was actually a rather large reputable dealership. I reasoned with them for awhile. They dropped the price 900 dollars from what they were asking (retail) originally. Other than the few flaws the bike overall is very nice, runs well, has the race kit, and has low miles (7,000). It was also owned by an older gentlemen. I'm just concerned with the servicing and my safety on the bike. I know I could have saved an extra few hundred with a private seller but couldnt find one around in my area (color I wanted) who had a title in hand. I was also tired of putting off my purchase (looking since last year). I'll definitely pick up a service manual (already have owners). Thanks Guys!

Sfinton - Is the pic in your profile the bike? I ask because I noticed the passenger peg supports seem to be on the wrong side...like they were taken off and reinstalled. The heel guard (the perforated piece of metal should be pointing away and up from the engine, its a heel guard not a toe guard. But maybe you did this on purpose, just an observation.

I would say if you're looking for piece of mind, change all the fluids, and enjoy. If there are any other buellers in your area, you should get together with them and let one of them ride bike, to compare it to theirs. If the bike seems fine to a seasoned buell rider, I'm sure the bike is a good bike.

The previous owner modified his undertail to reverse them. He cut the openings out larger. I have a used stock on its way to replace it. I posted a message about this and it was replied that some people do this so they can lay down at high speeds. All my buddys ride inlines and know nothing about buells. Buell owners are kinda scarce where I am at. Hopefully when I replace the undertail I do not come across anything else. Thanks for your input, Ill keep you informed on my upcoming projects (undertail, cam cover, exhaust)

Once you have the service manual, take out your axles. You'll probably be removing the rear anyway, to change the tire. A careful coating of never-sieze and grease will work wonders, the next time you need them out. Several discussions in the past about stuck axle removal, it does happen from time to time.

These are not delicate bikes. You should be ok, but I would have bargained for a liberal warranty for the first season in light of his "omissions". What's done is done. Enjoy that thang!

One word of advice. If you change your tranny fluid, get a spare gasket for the inspection/fill cover, I changed mine a couple of weeks ago and ripped the gasket.

"They dropped the price 900 dollars from what they were asking (retail) originally."

It would cost you about that much to have the cam cover and header replaced if done by a dealer.
