How do you get such tire longevity? I was reading thru all the tire posts and I can't believe how long people are getting out of there tires, 8000, 9000 , 10,000 miles!!! Im lucky if I can get 5000km out of them.. After the original Dunflops I got the Pilot Power 2CTS which were beautiful for 3000km then bad for the next 2000km as the front sides wore too quickly drastically changing the profile and handling of the bike. I then took a step back and got the Pilot Sports. These felt great as the profile wore down evenly but now at 4400km the rear middle is delaminating- so they are done. I guess I I'll try the Pilot Road 2 next. I don't do much cruising and rarely do highway riding, its mostly twisty mountain roads at a brisk pace but surely I can get at least 6000km out of a tire, can't I?? | ||

Riding style plays a big part of tire breakdown. Why not try the Scorpion Syncs? | ||

Can you push the bike hard in the twisties on the syncs? I dont wanna go lowsliding or even worse highsiding, into the side of a mountian. Ive been looking at Pirellis but they are hard to undersatnd, they just have to many varieies. Whats the difference between them? Diablo? Diablo Strada? Corsa III? Scorpion Syncs? Diablo Rosso? | ||

Tire pressure. At manufacturer recommended pressure, you'll get the most miles and the best fuel economy. Not as much stiction, tho, so if you're going to the twisties or a track day, drop a few pounds. With the lower pressure, the tires will heat up more/faster and you can lean more without lowsiding. I have recommended pressure in the Corsa IIIs on my 1125R and got 6100 miles out of my rear. A few days ago, I dropped from 42 front to 39 and lost 7-8 mpg. Front is back at 42 now. Zack | ||

I love my Pilot Powers. I'm well over 4k miles on mine. They've got a solid couple thousand more in them. | ||

I had the Continental Road Attacks on mine, and they were a great mix of grip and longevity. They felt so much better than the stock tires, and I got 6,000-7,000 miles out of the rear tires. | ||

me too! I do about 13,000km a year (8000 miles) and change oil and tires twice a year. Per mile I spend more on tires than I do on gasoline!! | ||

but my same time is 2500/3000 miles!!! more on tires than fuel is right. atleast for now... i think the 1125 is going to fix that nonexistant problem. i'll be using the same amount of tires and twice the fuel. ugh | ||

Huh, still on my original Diablos at 5280 miles, they hold the corners just fine and I will probably be getting out to 7500-10000 miles before needing a change. | ||

You can read about the differences in the tires at various places on the net. I run the Diablo Stradas - they have soft rubber on the sides and a tougher rubber in the middle so you can put a lot of miles on the freeway slab without wearing the tires down, but you still get pretty darn good performance in the twisties. My stock Dunlops lasted 2500, and now I've been on the stradas 10K and still plenty of life left. I'll buy them again. | ||

I think a lot has to do with the asphalt you are riding on. In some parts of the country, or world, the asphalt is much more abrasive than others, which wears out tires quicker. | ||

The Continentals are great tires. I run a Sport on the front and a Road on the rear. I have gotten anywhere between 6500-9000 miles on a a set. Needs to be pointed out that the only draw back is, they wear out the same, front and back that is! With that also being said, you have to look at the riding style of the person, and as mentioned above, the asphalt(road surface) plays ahuge role in longjevity(sp). I consider myself to be an aggresive rider. The roads around here in NC are a mix of smooth cut, and glass cut. In my opinion it would be best for you to try different types. Believe me I have been where you are, asking which tire is best, and how everyone was getting so high mileage. But it all came down to trying em and finding the ones I like best. Bythe way I have tried Dunlop, Metzler, Bridgestone, Scorpion, and the Conti's. The Metzler's would be my second choice.  |
