So natique was right. I should have never said I'd like to keep my 08 cityX mostly stock. With any luck, that will be my last retracted statement on this site. I guess when you have the itch to upgrade, you midas well scratch it, right? Why not... Anyway, im looking to put an open airbox mod, K/N, and a drummer pipe on my lady, but since its an 08, do I have any options for an upgraded ECM so it dosent run too lean? Seems most are still only for 07 and lower. Im hoping Im wrong, and the race ECM or something comparable will work with no problems.
Thanks in advance.
Kev

The following information is from what I understand about the Buell system. I maybe wrong, and I'm sure if I am the more knowledgeble people here will chime in and correct me.

For normal cruising you will be fine. The oxygen sensor will be able to adjust the fuel so that it is running correctly. I beleive the only area where you may start to run lean is at the top end.

So in my opinion, make the mods, and just don't exceed 5000 rpms for any lengthy period of time. Until, 1) an 08 race ecm comes available, or 2) you can get your ecm remapped.

ECMSPY 2 may be able to help you.

Ahh young padawan. Much to learn, you have.

I knew you'd come around. They ALWAYS come around. There is no hope for you, and presumably your wallet now.

I can not contribute any factual knowledge about your question. I have only 'heard' about the lack of 08 ECMs. I have a stock ECM remapped for the equip. I run. Check into the Direct Link software as well for compatability with the 08.

Either way, have fun and enjoy the ride.

You should be fine without an ecm upgrade. I have a Spec Ops pipe and will soon modify the inner airbox. According to ECMSPY and an ECMSPY guru (OpitMike), the stock 08 ecm on my XB12R has learned rather well.

That being said, there are still are some minor tweaks that could be done to gain slight improvements.

FTMYERSBUELLER,

Check out the forum buelletinboard.com there's a guy on there named xxoptimizedxx or something like that, and he's gung ho about maps. You have to make a cable and you use this program on your computer to extract data from your current ECM and you send him the data and he sends you back the maps for your Buell. You do this several times and at the end you have what everyone on Buelletinboard.com seems to think are the best map possible for your specific bike.

Oh, from what I've read he used to do it for free but now since so many people want his maps he's charging a minimal fee because the time required in what he does.

Hope this helps
B.A.

Thanks for the tip, bolt. I'll have to look into that a little further. I was hoping for an easier way, but sometimes difficult is more fun anyways.

Thanks again guys

From what I've read on this forum, there is no need for any ecm spy or anything. You have to reset the TPS, but that is all.
there is a proper procedure listed somewhere. Something about turning the key on and opening and closing the throttle a couple times. The 08 ECM is a totally different animal than previous years. Sorry, i don't have an XB, but I do alot of reading about different things on here, since I do want one.

*edit: Since you will be getting a Drummer, ask Kevin, he will tell you for sure.

No TPS resets required for Exhaust and air filter upgrades. Remember that TPS stands for Throttle Position Sensor. Unless the ECM is re flashed or changed there is no need to do it other then standard maintenance intervals.

There is no TPS reset on the 08's. I bolted my Spec Ops pipe on and the ECM "learned". No problems. This was confirmed with OptiMike and ECMSpy.
