Tell me good or bad I just ordered the D & D exhaust, K&N filter & open air box kit. Do I need to do anything else when I install these? I only have 750 miles on the bike do I need to wait until after the 1000 mile check up?

Thanks,

Brent

With that, you will want to have the ECM reprogrammed to make sure the motorcycle doesn't run lean.

Or, you could purchase a pre-programmed Race ECM from a board sponsor and get your TPS reset. I wouldn't run it very long with the parts you listed without doing something with the ECM due to the lean A/F mixture issue it will create. With everything you've listed plus the ECM, you should be pleased with the noticeable power gain.

a super cool LED brake light..........

Seriously, what the above crowd said.
every now and then a race ECM pops up on ebay, but i'd be careful with that. A sponsor on here is your best bet and look up the ECMSPY software, make your cable and reset the TPS yourself!

The Race ECM is not for the D&D pipes ... you need a custom Map setup for you configuration ...

Granted it's not a perfect match, but it's better than the stock ECM. He'll have plenty of time to learn about ECMSPY and get sucked into the mod and HP game later. Based on the ride I took on a friend's XB w/D&D, K&N, Airbox conversion/breather re-route and a Race ECM, I think he'll be pleased. I've got the same setup but with a Race Can and I am happy I didn't get into trying to load custom maps.

Oh and do yourself a favor. Buy a shop & parts manual and do your own service. Install the parts as soon as you get your hot little hands on them. No need to wait for the 1st service. Actually, you're only one good ride day away from your first service interval anyway.

Getting your bike to breath properly is always a good idea.

A lot of old hands believe that getting good riding gear, fitting better tires, tuning and/or upgrading one's suspension and getting some time on a track is even more important if one wants to use one's Buell for what it was meant for: twisties.

Is there anything else besides the race ecm? I know there is a fuel pack made by vance and hines for the Harley and something called a power commander III will they fit?

Foster, Nope. You have a Buell not a Harley.; )

Best bet is the Buell Race ECM. And No, there shouldn't be anything else you need just yet. After what you've listed the mods become more cosmetic then anything else.

If you want your bike to be QUICK, you need to reduce the flywheel weight. I have found this has the biggest bang for the dollar. It will allow your motor to spool up much faster then any stock and/or race-ecm & muffler modified Buell. You will pull away from them with a stock motor off the line, turn to turn, and out accelerate them on the freeway.

Cool!! Thanks for all the help I will see if I can buy one from a sponsor. How much for a new flywheel?

You don't change your flywheel or even crack the case of the motor. You do nothing internally to the motor!!!

John after reading your profile it sounds like you've got a hot engine there. Ever had it dynoed? You do the work yourself? Any problems or expectation of short engine life? I'm no mechanic but I can read, measure and turn bolts. Did this job require much machine work, and is this something someone with reasonable mechanical abilities and the right tools can do? Sounds like a perfect project for this winter...

You're welcome to email me at philipdotpenningtonmba at gmaildotcom if you feel like telling me a little about it. I'm always itching to run a little quicker.

John that's good advice you gave to the drive-up. However I should mention that my father is a retired mechanic, so between the two of us, I'm not scared of being unable to complete the job. I'd like to discuss your thoughts on what needs to happen to make this viable if you have the time. A general parts list would get me pointed in the right direction. Thanks for posting.

Buelltroll: Dont tell that to all the people who run the race ecm n D&D ok

There is a difference between OK and Correct. The race ECM may add some fuel in some areas of the Map ... but it isn't correct.

Ask any of the tuners here or on other Buell sites and they will tell you that the Race ECM does not match the flow characteristics of the D&D pipes. Why blow money on the race ECM if you have to reflash it anyway with the proper tune? And yes ... I have D&D pipes with a K&N and custom ECMSPY based tune.

The sid part of your link doesnt work

What's the exact part you are trying to link to?

This discussion just points out to me that the race kit was a great bargain for a pre-tuned drop in solution. Hardest part isn't hard at all, just a TPS reset.
No Muss, No Fuss.
