so i tore down the front fairing and everything up there to replace it, the fairing mount etc. i disconnected some connectors up there, just to get the fairing mount off. I've plugged everything back in. now, when I turn the key on and hit the engine run switch, the fuel pump doesn't prime and the bike wont start. hit the starter button, nothing whatsoever. i also noticed the engine check light doesn't light when the key is turned to on. what did i do?

Please don't take this as me trying to be negative and I have had customers do this but did you check the kill switch on the H-Bars? I've been yelled at for this before until they realize they were wrong.
Check you fuses.
Double check your connections.

I'm not that familiar with the firebolts yet but since no one posted yet im just trying to give you ideas and bumping this thread at the same time.

Do you have power to anything?
Are the lights on? Just trying to eliminate possibilities, books not helping.

The only thing I can come up with is the Relays but your bike was running before so I don't see why they wouldn't work now.
If you have a relay handy try and replace the starter relay.
Battery connections are okay nice and tight?
I hate not being able to see the bike myself.
try switching your starter relay with the ignition relay.

i dont know if it's necessarily the starter, as the fuel pump doesn't even prime.

did i do something wrong by disconnecting the connectors up front?

I really ment to write igniton relay.
I'm getting tired and my brain was already fried from work and still PO'd about my sons bike getting ripped off so bare with me im trying...lol

I don't think disconnecting the wire connecters would cause anything like this.
But theres something not connected like your right side handle bar switches or a dead relay. If you can still reach the plugs you disconneted, unplug and plug them back in and make sure they lock together.

Trying to do my best to help you oout since most of the guys that help out are most likely sleeping right now.
I'll make some calls tomorrow to get more info on the 08's. i'm sure by then someone with more Buell knowledge will chime in and help you out.
If not call your dealer that the bike wont start and let them figure it out, Not sure if they would try to void the warrenty but dont mention you messing with the fairing.

k looking at the shop manual...

CHECK ENGINE LAMP NOT ILLUMINATED AT KEY ON 4.9
GENERAL
If the engine stop switch is set to RUN with the engine off, and
the ignition key switch is turned ON, the check engine lamp
should illuminate for four seconds. See Figure 4-13.
Battery voltage is supplied to the lamp bulb. The lamp bulb is
grounded by the ECM through the BK/Y wire. A lack of power
to the ECM will cause the check engine lamp to be inoperative
and also create a no start situation.

looking at the flow chart for "Test 4.9"...
"Turn ignition key ON. Set engine stop switch to RUN. Does the engine start?"
It doesn't, so...
"Did check engine lamp and no start conditions occur simultaneously?"
Sure did...
"No ECM power. Refer to 4.12 NO ECM POWER."

ok so to 4.12
"NO ECM POWER 4.12
GENERAL
A relay controlled by the engine stop switch supplies power to
the ECM. The relay requires a ground to operate. If the
ground is not established, the ECM will not receive power. If
the ECM does not appear to be receiving power, check the
ground sources. A blown ignition fuse can also disable the
ECM."

Is the relay up front with the rest? Maybe, since nothing is touching the frame cept the ground strap directly below where the fairing mount mounts to the frame, it's not grounded properly?

I know the gauges and headlights have power just dangling off the front...

Be sure to check the fuses as well. A friend had nearly the same condition including the no fuel pump sound. The problem was either a blown fuse or a relay.

Check the relays on the left side. the same thing happened to me and it was the relay. They go without warning. Swap the ignition one with another and see if the fuel pump comes on.
