Need help. Just finished with the D&D pipe and Racing ECM being installed by the DEALERSHIP and the bike sputtered and died on the way home. Also there is a strong smell of gas in the air on the ride home.

I thought the D&D was tuned to run properly with a stock, not race ECM? This could be the issue. Did you recieve any data or instruction regarding the ECM with the D&D? May be worth a second look.

I thought I remembered reading that Skully had the D&D with the RACE ECM. Also the problem seems to be the last 1/4-3/4 turn of the throttle causes the bike to cut off/sputter.

Hmmm,
I'm running a D&D w/race ECM on my '03 9R with no issues. Are you sure they performed the TPS reset properly? This is critical with a new ECM on your bike for proper running.

Sound like TPS issue to me too, though that usually makes the first 1/4 throttle hicup, not the last.

If they installed both a new muffler and an ECM and DIDN'T reset the TPS, go find a new dealership. That's pretty basic crap.

How did your air box mods go?

The air mods were supposed to be done yesterday, but since the bike has to go back to the dealership today the air box is being delayed until later in the week. Thanks for asking. Moreover, 5 hours labor for the Muffler and ECM???
Also, what do you think of just putting a large piece of foam on top the filter instead of the aluminum plate.

5 hrs of labor is way to much! About 1 hour for my pipe.

I am just trying to get an idea of how much time is "normal" before I decided how to proceed further. I am learning the hard way why every Buell owner does their own work and labor.

They shouldn't have tried charging you for more than three hours, tops. It'd take me less time than that quite easily (probably more like two hours). Five hours is gouging, plain and simple, and I suggest you tell them about it.

As for the airbox, no, I would strongly suggest you use something stiff and non-porous. You'll never get a good seal using any kind of foam.

Took me about an hour having never done one on a Buell before.

Tomorrow they will tell me their decision after I expressed to them my concern about them over charging me. And in an all american way if it is not in line with what you guys have said then legal action will be my next course of action

5 hours of labor! A lecherous monkey with a lubed up football could have done it quicker.

The dealer guys may have a "book" time by which they would estimate labor charges for things. (like "Replace sidestand 0.2 hours" ) If you can get a hold of one of these pages...

You may call some other dealers in your area and get a labor estimate for having the race kit put on your bike. Get names of the Service guys that quote you. Don't tell them it's already been done,. This could be helpful in negotiating your labor cost down to a more competitive rate.

You and I think alike. Already called the Buell dealerships in Southern California and was quoted 2-2.5 hours, with one at 3 hours. I don't know how Buell expects to keep current customers or to get new ones, since it seems that being treated this way is the norm and not the exception.

Unfortunate, but true. The 'good' Buell dealers are few and dar between.

But the best one's only about a half-dozen steps from my back door!

Even if I wasn't forced into doing my own work by poor dealer service and money concerns it's still a great experience and well worth the time and effort spent getting to truly know your bike.

I couldn't agree more. Ever since I bought Maggie (yes that is what my xb9s' name is) I have done all of the maintenance and modifications myself and I love it. I wouldn't take it to the best dealer in the world unless I absolutely had to. I even change my own tires, it is very rewarding to know everything that has been done to your bike. Anyway, have fun and dive in, you can do it.

PS, does any one know of the cheapest place online to get tires?

PPS, just got done riding with Don Castle and John and Sherry Blackfeather over near Ouray, it was great and John is thinking of doing a Buell Rally over there next year
